Keep the cage big. Smaller cage will advantage Khabib because theoretically his opponent will always be closer to the cage, and so he can take them down easier.

The cage could be a size of the full arena and Khabib would still manage to pin his victims to the cage.

If khabib grabs you, the cage could be the size of a football field and hes still shove you up against the cage wall, the size doesnt matter in this context, what matters is gaethjes ability to not get held on to by khabib!
@tylerramsey95024 жыл бұрын
@@krosses7156 so you're saying only thing that matters is Justin's ability to get free from khabib before it gets to the cage? Wouldn't that still mean the size of the cage matters? He has more time to get free, more space to sprawl, more space to evade. It still matters in your scenario as well
@krosses71564 жыл бұрын
@@tylerramsey9502 my point is, if khabib gets his hands on him, hes getting pushed to the cage and taken down no matter how big the cage. Gaethjes whole plan will be to avoid khabib and and keep him from getting hold of gaethje. The size of the cage isnt nearly as big a deal as op is making it out to be.

As a short person, with small reach, i much prefer sparring/competing in smaller rings/cages. It’s far easy to cut people off, get their back to the cage/ropes and fight in the pocket along there. Every-time they try and circle off i cut them off and keep them pinned. This saves me getting pinged with jabs and teeps all round in the centre of the sparring area

I like the variety in cage size, honestly. I'd like to see bigger and smaller cages used. It just makes it more interesting with an added wrinkle or uniqueness to the event. If it truly "doesn't matter" than it should be completely fine to change up the cage sizes. I think that a smaller cage would be a detriment to more elusive guys. If your game plan is to avoid getting stuck up against cage, you're going to have to be moving a lot more to avoid the cage in a smaller octagon, perhaps making you gas quicker. Pressure heavy fighters that like to keep you up against the cage are going to be able to do so at a higher frequency in a smaller cage. In a smaller cage there's less distance that a pressure fighter needs to cover to have their opponent against the cage than in a bigger octagon, there's also less room to angle off. If the octagon was even bigger, it'd be an advantage for elusive guys that like to stick, counter, and move a lot.
@looverse20234 жыл бұрын
Daniel Cormier said the advantage goes to the guy who wants to close the distance instead of stay at range but he’s just a double champ. No comparison to the Bad Guy. I’m convinced it doesn’t matter. Case closed

I get cage size doesn't make much of a difference in almost every fight. Though if you think back to Conor's win against Diaz do you think he would have been able to stay (run?) away so much to catch his breath in the later rounds in the smaller cage? (have no experience in a cage so just asking)

Surely for a kick-boxer it would make a big difference. A fighter who fights from range will be more likely to have success with a bigger cage. I also felt the Magny fight was a perfect example of a rangy fighter having difficulty with the shorter cage. Atleast that’s how it appeared to me.

I’m under the impression that the cage size mattered in the Aljamain fight, with a bigger cage would be impossible to close the distance to grapple that fast and that early in the fight, I’d like to watch Sandhaggen fighting him again in the bigger cage, the same with two strikers if the taller is the offensive one, the shorter one has way less space to move and evade punches, at least that was what it looked like in the O’Malley fight.

So Masvidals knee on Askren. In a smaller cage, does he pull that off? There’s a step or two he got in the bigger cage he wouldn’t get in the smaller cage...I’m guessing. I think it changes for the spectating. The grandeur of the bigger cage gives us a feel of it being a big moment. But from a physical standpoint I mean there is something to be said about having two more steps into the pocket, and or out.

Cage size does matter, can change a lot in a fight, for example khabib loves to back you up to the edge of the cage to go for a takedown, with a smaller cage that's less distance khabib has to cover, and less room people have to circle away, having a smaller cage makes people need to engage more because you run out of room a little faster, and the person who controlling the center of the octagon has the ability to keep you against the cage easy as they have less distance to cover and less distance to try cut you off. But hey I might be wrong
@cdub33844 жыл бұрын
I get you .. Chael I do. But it has to have some type of difference. It may be minuscule to the next. “One mans trash is another’s treasure” type of deal. don't worry about it to much Chal I am 62 now and was a college wrestler ; supposed to know this stuff... So if you start out in the middle of the circle and it's 32 feet diameter that means the radius is 15 1/2 feet. How many do steps can you take in 15 and healthy you need to know that. If you're on the bottom in the second. Wouldn't it be nice to know how much room we have to work with. If you're defending a takedown wouldn't it be nice to know the timing and the distance. Food for thought. And I don't claim to be at your level but it was important for me to know that stuff. I did OK better than OK

I think that cage size can affect how a fight in a lot of aways and give advantage or a disavantage to a certain fighter of fighting style. Altough, i agree with you that IT DOENS'T MATTER. MMA represent's in one sport , all combat competive martial arts. Theese martial arts were invented for protection in real life situations... In real life you don't get to pick the stop were you fight, in a forrest, or a club , or even in the middel of the street...
