A similar pace fighter is Volk and his pace by the end of 5th had Islam gassed. You try to judge skill by skill but you forget that pace is also very important. Like the saying that a blackbelt with some punches in the head is a purple belt. Cardio and pace is a skill too, and Merab is one of the best i have seen in that. There is one aspect in this that everybody is missing - Biological factor. It does not matter who Umar trains with or that he is from same region as Merab, or that he is Khabib's cousin, we still don't know his cardio limit. You can train with Khabib all life and still don't have Khabib's cardio. This is a genetical factor, either you have it or you don't have it. If this was achievable through training, every fighter in UFC would have Merab's cardio, right ? It's like punching power, you can train and increase it to some degree, but you'll never come close to George Foreman. Merab is George Foreman of cardio, is Umar though ? Who knows, because if he isn't Merab will drag him in deep waters that he won't survive. In this case he needs some other potent tools - like dynamits in his fists and Umar clearly does not have those either. Just cause he has a bit better striking and more techical kicks I don't see him as a favourite. Depending on kicks against Merab is like hunting a bear with a slingshot.

If you look at the fighters the Russian has faced, the only truly good one is the last opponent. The others have two or three fights, and some even just one fight, against the Russian himself.
