As predicted... Khabib Nurmagomedov won, but I'm not certain a rematch looks the same.

It definately was an achievement considering he had not fought in nearly three years. Thats a hell of a long time out of the fight game and also with no tuneups. Kahabib as great as he is should have been able to do this no later than round two. I did not see Kahabib as a great fighter. I saw him as a lucky fighter who should be embarrassed that Mcgregor lasted so long considering the circumstances. Kahabib is lucky that McGregor had such a long layoff or he would have lost. The layoff definately affected Mcgregors performance and despite the loss, he won at least one round and ended Kahabibs winning streak of never having lost a round.

The UFC has a bit of a problem. The Khabib style is the preferred style to win a MMA match, it’s clear. At $65, I don’t know if it’s worth it... in fact I know I wouldn’t lay out the money to see a guy get dragged to the fence and wait several minutes while the guy gets into position to finish the fight. Think of the shift in baseball, the defensive trap in hockey, zone defense in basketball. Many of these sports change rules to make it watchable. What does the UFC do so that 80% of rounds isn’t fought on the ground? Can’t allow eye gouging, can’t open the groin to strikes or grabbing, can’t allow small joint manipulation. The UFC is going to have to get creative before everyone turns to Khabibs style. Perhaps allowing knee strike from the bottom guy, glove or fence grabbing, or tighter time constraints to become more productive on the ground. Thoughts?

So let me disprove everything that Chael just said: 1. It doesn't matter if you defend 10 Khabib takedowns, he's just going to keep on coming and land 20 more. 2. Edson Barboza took worse damage than Conor did in that second round in the entire fight, and still didnt give up. I dont know how this is even a topic to praise conor about. 3. Round 3. Very debatable about who won that round. Khabib chose to stay standing with conor. AND conor didnt even land any big shots. Khabib wasn't tired he just chose to persue the fight this way. 4. Round 4. This round is the reason why we know khabib wasn't tired and he just chose to stay standing. He lands a takedown and it's over from there. Conclusion: A rematch is literally unwatchable and ridiculous. Give us Tony.

Khabib lost on the feet. I'll admit conor looked different out there, slow, couldn't find his range, no pop in his punches. barely threw any combinations .Khabib has literally no skill on the feet I don't care what anyone says. anyone educated knows that. khabib just runs at you swinging his arms wildly to get the takedown, if he lands good, if not he shoots. Remove the takedowns and conor would definitely beat Khabib. Those takedowns drained conor, he had very little left in the second round after defending off khabibs grappling.

You could tell right from the start Conor's mindset was defensive...he was so consumed with stuffing take downs and/or not wasting too much energy trying to get back to his feet, he offered nothing and actually got tagged with an over hand bomb from Khabib because he was thinking about the takedown attempt. If the rematch happens, which in my opinion it should be Tony first, then Conor needs to throw a ton more at Khabib, he needs to go after him, otherwise it'll be a repeat of the first match.

100% agree, Conor needs to get another win under his belt before taking on khabib again, and a Win over Ferguson would be very respectable and solidify him as still one of the best in the division. As well as boosting conors confidence. And when the Khabib rematch happens (which it will) conor needs to be way more offensive while protecting himself.

CSF Studios Absolutely. While I do think Khabib has a solid chin, the only real impression we got was when Conor essentially ’touched’ Khabib with a left hand in the opening seconds of the first and Khabib did not like that. The clean shots Conor was landing were when he was extremely gassed in the third and Khabib was, to his credit, incredibly fresh. We all know Conor’s power/accuracy dramatically deteriorates with his stamina after the first two rounds. He doesn’t have that same click and bang. I have no doubt Khabib can take a lot of shots from most fighters, but I also have no doubt that Khabib would struggle to take the left hand in early stages.

Conor has been avoiding Ferguson for a looong time. Firstly, Conor doesn't deserve a re-match. Iaquinta took Khabib to 5 rounds on one day notice. He deserves a re-match more than Conor. Most likely Khabib will get suspended for a lengthy period by NSCAC, and then Conor wont have a choice but to fight Ferguson for an interim belt. Khabib fights the winner upon his return.

The fact that Conner even after a heavy loss has the ability to potentially get a straight rematch will be testimony to his entertainment value for the ufc. Lost all respect for this pathetic bias assessment. At this level, surviving is not enough. Conor survived and he got the round from Khabib by biased scorers. Losing round Means absolutely nothing when you are to prove that you can stand up with the "Best striker" in UFC. And Khabib shocked me with his superior chin that everyone was not sure about. Conor is just not on Khabib's or Tony's level. They just monsters. And Boxing comparison is just joke. Floyd is a smaller dude and it was exhibition with no drive. But Khabib is 10-15 pounds over Conor and has way superior strength and conditioning and CHIN to back his other dimensional grappling. Rematch will be same . The mystique of Conor is gone. The whole "we just don't know how good he is" has been answered. Not sure how Chael can watch Nurmagomedov dominate McGregror in every aspect of MMA and dominate him for, essentially, the entire fight and then say that McGregor will beat Khabib in a rematch. We're still left with "Conor might drop a lucky left hand on Khabib" as Conor's best path to victory. There's no way you can spin a rematch between these two fighters based off of skill anymore. You can use the bus incident and post-fight brawl as a buildup, but you can't possibly sell this fight from the point of view of a "clash of skills". The mystique is gone and I have far less interest in even watching McGregor take on Diaz for a third time (let alone Khabib.)

Khabib is not a glass jaw... Conor was wrong... And perhaps for the first time conors chin is tested for real... Not with nates shots... Conor does have a hard chin... But khabib has a rock chin.... That punch from khabib could have ko'd anyone... It did affect Conor... But he survived... Conor even somewhat survived the ground and pound... Anyways khabib mauled him
@mattsmith6961
@mattsmith6961 6 жыл бұрын
Sunny A no McGregor got dropped but he was not rocked he was still able to keep his feet under him and didn’t actually hit the octagon he just stood right up it was quite impressive actually, it was like when Kevin Lee got hit by Barbosa, Only Kevin took a lot more damage obviously. And if he was rocked he would not have been able to take that ground and pound he took all of those shots and was all right like he said he came back and took the third round. But you are absolutely correct Khabib can take a punch, however the one two Diaz landed Hurt him a lot more which is evident from the desperate takedown he resorted to. Also I think Connor was completely overzealous, just like with Mayweather he had a son, which he has said himself to Aldo is a detriment to a fighter, he got extremely wealthy money makes you weak people widely agree on that especially when it comes to sports or even just contact sports, his wife is in the middle of her next pregnancy, his frame did not look good his arms looked alright but his definition was not there, he has clearly been drinking probably his own whiskey, his speed and accuracy were not there pretty much from the start in my opinion he just didn’t look good and I think all of the reasons I listed above are very reasonable reasons to conclude why that is, any one of those has taken out other combat sport athletes from their prime. In my opinion if the McGregor that fought Alverez were to have fought the McGregor we saw on Saturday the latter would have gotten his lights put out, his body looked better, his speed and accuracy was better than even Anderson Silva his fluidity, his reflexes from stuffing takedowns and slipping punches and his timing were just ridiculous, Eddie Alvarez is a top-tier fighter he was killing people before Connor and he was winning a lot of fights after Connor, but McGregor made him look like an amateur. Honestly he has children, which changes things in itself, that will also change his wife right now instead of burning with anger and passion after being defeated his wife is almost certainly comforting him telling him not to worry about it you have a son, and another child on the way and etc. once the kids are there women change that is biological fact, their expectations for their spouse become much more stringent and family-based (so do men but naturally, the women have much more of a drastic change). He has a lot of money to fall back on, and business ventures that he is wanting to look after, he’s no longer on welfare living in squalor that makes a fighter hungry… I just don’t think he can change and get better at his age considering all the factors above. He should have waited until he was done to have children (he was 100% right when he told Aldo children are a detriment to a fighter) , Choose business or MMA, and tell the woman for right now my legacy comes first… But it’s too late for all of that he needs to be training two times a day for the next six months to a year to change to evolve into a more well rounded fighter even to just become a more precise well conditioned striker. That’s just my opinion, I think maybe he could beat Dustin or Nate if he really focuses, and for the most part puts most things aside. But they will give him a go, Those 13 second knockouts, masterful performance like we saw with Alvarez are not coming back. Unless he literally put everything into training including a lot of fucking money.

It's true that two wrongs don't make a right but the adrenaline he was feeling at the time, compounded with Conor continuously cheating but getting away with it because Herb Dean was being a biased referee who closed not one but two eyes. And after he'd earned his win, Conor's team was still bent on trash talking (or should I say, screaming) his religion. It's a human factor. You're bound to react. The verbal aggressor (Dillon) knew this and did what he did to exacerbate the situation. Lee doesn't fit. He has never truly fit and that's why he's been calling for 165 (on top of not being able to make weight). Tony or GSP are probably the only fights Khabib likely wants. GSP isn't likely to happen leaving a rematch with Conor the only real "money fight" (although I think having Tony v Pettis on the same card was brilliant in getting both seen and the Tony v Khabib fight will sell well, just not Conor or GSP superfight well). So Lee is at least behind those 3. Then there's still Poirier. I'm predicting (if Khabib isn't facing a long term suspension) Khabib v Tony and the winner of Poirier v Nate fighting Conor. If Khabib is out for a while (or retires, rumor is he's wanting to run for office in his home town), then Tony v Conor for vacated title and the winner of Poirier v Nate will be the first defense. Regardless of all these scenarios, I think Eddie is probably the only fight that makes sense for Lee. He's about 3 fights out from a title shot. And that win over Barboza has dropped in value over the time he's been inactive since that fight. He's just in too stacked a division.

I highly doubt Conor won that round. Conor landed 18 significant strikes & Khabib landed 13 significant strikes. On top of that, Octagon control time for Khabib was way higher than Conor's. Not only that, Khabib still dominated the clinch position. And, its not JUST the strikes that wins the round. Maybe UFC tried everything to give Conor some sort of advantage if the fight goes to the decision. Cmon! Herb Dean didn't even warn Conor. People do that shit all the time. This is clearly your first time watching an MMA fight. I saw so many instances of fence-grabbing, shorts grabbing, glove grabbing, illegal elbows etc., all on the same card. Nice confirmation bias though. Let's see what excuse you come up with when Khabib is beaten by Ferguson, Poirier, and Lee who all counter his style. Khabib has some of the worst striking I've ever seen, and the only reason it works is because his pressure, angle switching, and wrestling are top tier, which is what most guys in LW are weak too right now... except for the 3 fighters I mentioned above. Hell, even Pettis would shit on Khabib if Pettis' cardio wasn't so drained. Have fun in Russia rooting for your only valuable athlete in this sport.

Chael, why is there a need to rematch? Just why? Did we see the same fight? There was almost zero inflicted damage from conor. How many Shots landed from his side? He caught Khabib and inflicted immense damage.....when exactly? You try to instigate something that isn`t there. Do you get points for shutting down takedowns? Do you get points in being defensive, lying on the ground? There is not only no need for a rematch, he definitely has no right for a rematch. In Conor`s own words: Let him fight some bums first, earn his spot again. We all know who deserves the next titleshot. But no matter who it is beside conor, it`s gonna be a fighter who represents more integrity. Yes, entertainment via show is nice. But there is a big bunch of people who are sick and tired of all this wwe crap in the UFC. I am simply tired of mcgregor. I don`t wanna hear his voice or see his arrogant face. It`s just too much. He behaves like a child, bullies other people in a way a 4th-grader would speak to others. And some commentators(like you) stand aside and praise him for his genius. "A Master at mental warfare". Are you plain stupid? That´s not a master at mental warfare, that`s a semi-intelligent bully that hasn`t met his match yet. And now, finally, everyone saw how weak and ineffective he was. Yes Chael, weak and ineffective. As if it is some kind of victory to avoid damage while you are losing. NO chael, even if you avoid damage while you lose, YOU STILL LOSE. No rematch at this time.

Someone had to hit the brakes at Conor's, Dana's and the media's efforts to degrade this sport into a cheap disgusting theatre where the meaning of words is reduced only to the amount of money those three can make out of them (and if you don’t agree with it you “don’t get it”). This sport is about fighting and words have meaning beyond selling PPVs, whisky and podcasts and you can be asked to answer for yours. Not a novel idea and not an unreasonable one. And no, publicly calling someone's dad you have never met "backwards c*nt", "smelly terrorist rat", "quivering coward" just to make money off it is neither "freedom of speech" nor "a stroke of genius", it never was. yea Khabib really hit the brakes didnt he by being cheap and disgusting himself and letting himself and his nation down. He is no better than McGregor in that respect. Some of the things he said and did in all of this were just as bad if not worse than anything McGregor did. Men have been trash talking each other for decades in the fight game without consequence but Khabibs mental fragility meant he couldnt handle some mean words so he had to turn into an out of control animal in front of the watching world. Disgraceful. He needs to reconsider his profession, as he seems out of his depth in the promotion side of it.

Chael you Mcnugget band jumper, Conor had his toes in the cage multiple times, Grabbed Khabib's shorts multiple times and grabbed Khabib's gloves multiple times. If he had not done those things, he would have been out of there within 2 rounds after that Kimora attempt. As good as Conor did with the wrestling aspect, Khabib proved he was 10 steps ahead the entire time, even with Conor constantly cheating. Khabib isn't 27-0 without reason, he's the best wrestler in the UFC. DC even says it.

You're the one crying. Conor got embarrassed and dropped by a guy who's not even a striker. Then completely smashed and outclassed the other rounds. Only reason you felt the need to comment is because my words hurt all the Mcnuggets fans out there. And what about Danis claiming "those guys aren't really about it!" Aeril - "really you think so?" Dillon - " I don't think so otherwise they would have got off that bus, but that's just my opinion". What you got to say now Dillon? PS. How's your face?

Just my two cents, but conor usually always comes back twice as hard after a loss. I feel like the flat footed conor we saw at 229 was the wrong type of conor for the fight. It seemed like they trained him too much for takedown defense they forgot his strength and just assumed it was a given without training. I mean even his coach admitted to focusing too much on his takedown defense.

@@TheSummerwine1 Of Course His Coaches Made That Excuse. What Do You Expect Them To Say? "We Did Everything Perfectly, But Still Got Dominated. Lets Have A Rematch!"??? How Has He Come Back "Twice As Strong" After Losses? He Lost To Nate, And Arguably Lost The Rematch. All His Losses Are The Same, By Submission, Which Shows His Weakness STAYS His Weakness.

John Kavanagh and Owen Roddy are really humble guys, they're like Conor - they don't make excuses and know when an improvement is needed. If you bother to watch a few of their interviews you'll know that, instead of making an assumption based on your own bias. Also you cant deny Conor came back stronger after his loss to Diaz, it wasn't an arguable win like bs theorist and the sheep who follow them say, and then he went on to do what he did to eddie alvarez. You've got ufc vets left and right admiring mcgregors talents but theres always one person in the crowd like you picking only the bad apples and thinks he knows best.

A lot of people here still don't seem to get how the UFC works, especially in the WME era: The fight that gets made is the fight that makes the most $$$. It's that simple. Not about who deserves it or doesn't or what would be a better fight style wise etc...it's about what generates the most green. So in terms of the most likely fights, based on how much money they would make it would be: 1) Khabib vs Conor II 2) Conor vs Diaz III 3) Conor vs GSP 4) Conor vs Ferguson 5) Conor vs some boxing star (probably Canelo Alvarez) .... 11) Khabib vs Ferguson Now, you could make an argument that Ferguson should fight Khabib, sure. That has a strong sporting merit to it. That's not what it's about though. The driving metric here is money, not sporting ethics. Don't like it? Vote with your wallet and don't buy what the UFC is selling. Just stop thinking fights will get made for sporting reasons. It's not a primary factor for the UFC.

Consider how much money the ufc has invested in Conor and how easily khabib dismantled him. There won't be a rematch because Conor can't win a rematch. It's that simple. The best they can hope for is for Ferguson to beat khabib and pretend he is irrelevant

I don't wanna start an internet fight but I just wanna have my input, hopefully without starting an argument. I don't think Khabib knows how Conor fights, at least not because of this fight. Conor changed his entire style just for this fight, I think if conor stuck to his roots with more stand up and less takedown defense training the fight would have went differently. He would have been light on his feet, unlike what we saw, and moving around the octogon avoiding the close distance for takedowns like he was doing against eddie or aldo, even if it was only 13 seconds that we saw lol.

Please tell me why everyone is talking about a potential rematch?! There's no reason! McGregor was a title challenger that got beat clearly! No title challenger ever gets an immediate rematch, unless it was a draw or a very bad judges decision!!! Makes no sense, other fighters work hard to get title shots who have actually won multiple fights in a row against other top contenders!!
