Idk, but fighting isn't safe... Some prefer not running the risk of getting punched hard, others actually think it benefits them. I think that logically, the more you get punched, the more your resistance to receive those punches drops. Though I don't know if that is a thing that happens gradually, or if it actually has long term consequences while having short term benefits. Maybe it makes a fighter, generally, better at receiving and enduring, enduring is the better world, in a certain window of time... Which in Alex Poatan's case, I don't think he's gonna fight for much longer, maybe 2 or 3 more years, which may be within the time frame that these punches in sparring elevate his resilience... Though for a young fighter, if they are projecting many years, like 8 years in the sport as the best or trying to be the best, maybe it wouldn't be beneficial... Or maybe it would be in the beginning, but they'd know when it's time to slow down the intensity in sparring as passing that point passes the window frame. Who knows though, Alex Poatan has got 40 fights in kickboxing as well, since 2015 iirc, or 2014, so although newer into MMA than most, he's been fighting as tough battles as any UFC fighter who has been fighting since 2015 and is still active. In kickboxing, it may be even more dangerous as far as resistance goes because it's focused on striking, a more well versed and devastating striking than boxing, and fought against the best strikers in the world, so... It's just weird, because ofc he knows what benefits him. He wouldn't be doing things that drop his resistance, he also has a professional team, more than 2 coaches, who are specialists... And some fighters are unique. Maybe Alex is the type who defies logic in the sense of, his body is different, what holds most athletes down, for him it is beneficial... Maybe he's a special case in which although he has had more than 50 fierce fights in total, for 10 years, he is still getting better at 37 yo and is having his resistance added up just the more he goes. Idk, it's not logical. But idk really know, maybe Poatan is one of these types whose body is just special, whose body operates differently than what biologically would be a fact that the wear and tear is weakening them... Idk if that's possible, but maybe like there are anomalies to certain theories that are still valid, in spite of the anomalies, Alex is an anomaly that would not prove science wrong, just that his body has something that makes him an anomaly to the science law, rather than a contradiction to science...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Thai sparring, that's the best pace to spar at it's like a playful game of tag. you can feel through the gloves when someone is going too hard, and while its not easy to be fast and accurate while not throwing too hard, its not impossible. that type of pace lends itself well to getting better at movements and learning experience so I'd imagine Alex is past that and knows how to train hard with limits.

I’m a firm believer in headgear
@camdonmaydew876
@camdonmaydew876 12 күн бұрын
Whether or not headgear protects the brain, it’s worth it because it protects my face, skin, and jaw bone (with a face bar). The guys pereira is sparring aren’t trying to knock him out, and pereira slips punches so close that headgear would annoy him. Head gear is great when you’re sparring someone who might try and knock you out if the get the chance (sadly too common at boxing gyms) and i believe when you use head gear and 16 oz gloves, it reduces the impact, whether from padding or 16s having people’s arms get tired. The studies saying headgear doesn’t help are likely skewed by several things. 1. It might not help as much in 10 oz gloves compared to 16s 2. Gyms that don’t use headgear likely spar more light and controlled, meaning there’s no good control group for studies (the national library of medicine seems to corroborate this) 3. Gyms that use head gear have sparring sessions where the athletes are trying to hurt each other even if one gets wobbled If you preach against headgear, you’ve never boxed in a boxing gym with someone trying to take your head off. When i had only trained mma and Muay Thai i thought headgear was stupid, after my first time sparring boxing i knew I’d never spar at the boxing gym without it. If i had to pick between a mouth price and headgear I’d pick headgear. I also check my partners gloves before sparring now. I got rocked my a guy with totally worn out 12 oz gloves and he might as well have hit me bare knuckle. Also, if you don’t spar hard at least once a month, and your 0-0, you aren’t ready for a fight.

You are stubborn. The headgear gives you a false sense of security while it actually increases your chances of being ko-ed. Basic science. Heavier item= Heavier impact on the brain.

5:37 this stuff obviously isn't the case as we know now. As does Francis Ngannou. He could've sparred forever, but he most likely never got hit as hard in training as Joshua hit him in the fight, and you would assume up until that moment he thought nobody could hit that hard.

@ValtinhoBranco
@ValtinhoBranco 7 күн бұрын
Helmets end up taking away much of the usefulness of training. One aspect of fighting is having the ability to dodge blows, receive them and deal with them, whether it's a counterattack or something like that. If you put on a helmet you end up relying on it but you won't have it in the fight. This ends up making the training poor.

So the Idea is that headgear make your head a bigger target, and it give more leverage to the punch. Meaning that it may protect the fleshy part of your face. It will protect you from bruises and cuts but when tou get punched hard the padding make your head accelerate further and shake your brain more. Also it might give confidence to your partner " hey he is wearing a headgear I can go a little harder" I think we should think of the headgear in MMA like the mountain biker think of their helmets. Wear it but remember that it doesn't make it ok to land on your face

I’ve done a lot of sparring, and the biggest knocks I’ve ever had were with the head gear on. I think the glove gets stuck to the head gear and it makes your head bounce in a way that it doesn’t without head gear on a sweaty face. I remember the first time I got hit with head gear on it felt like I got hit by a truck. I think there is something to this idea

Love pereira one of my favorite fighters. But always concerned in his fights with his hands low, I understand there’s reasons to do so, like the opponent don’t see punches coming. All good but when adesanya with more speed caught him in the second fight concerns me, especially a guy with power and more speed connects. Always edge of my seat watching his fights thinking to myself don’t get caught keep those hands up chin down eyes up and bite down, head movement and circle. 🤔

Headgear doesn't reduce concussive attrition. In fact one could argue presence of headgear negatively impacts said repetitive stress status in guaranteed 4 instances but up to 5 different ways. . 1. Brain still rattles inside skull regardless of external padding. Inertia of brain matter suspended inside liquid within bony structure suddenly being slapped against said unforgiving surface. 2. Headgear imbalances head. Makes bobbing and weaving more difficult. Fighter will have issues with defensive stamina.(neck) 3. Makes the head larger and makes slips require a much larger margin to succeed, thus ensuring more head jarring events will necessarily occur. 4. Headgear creates a false sense of security regarding safety of the head, and thus may lead to more rounds sparring(equates to more brain trauma) without adequate safeguards. 5. Fighter psychology mid sparring. Head gear can cause a fighter to relax the iron grip on their power mid sparring. Someone gets a good lick, and the testosterone brain starts the one upping game. Sans headgear the fighters are more cognizant of making sure to measure the shots better.

Many fighters don't like to wear headgear. Mainly fighters from Brazil. We have this culture that fighting has to be something based on aggression, suffering, pain... So many of them don't care about this scientific side. Pereira, for example, doesn't go on a diet, he doesn't have a nutritionist, he eats what he wants. Islam Makhachev says that food is one of the most important things... who is right? idk too

You can't dodge punches as easily and the gloves stick as in they don't graze and slip off they no matter what impact even a glancing blow...and the headgear makes your head a bigger target..now without you feel it more, but you can avoid getting hit much easier especially when you're sweaty. I seem to actually prefer without and getting hit than with.

I think headgear is good for safety and not get cuts or damage... as for the hit impact force would be the roughly the same with or without headgear... But what i very often dont hear is the size of the headgear... The headgear makes the head a bigger of a target.. If you are used to slippen the punches by just an inch... zero touches... And with headgear on, maybe most punches would still hit the headgear, looking like u didn't slip it enough.. wich gives a false feedback, because you would slip the punch without the headgear... I myself prefer using no headgear... You need to have trust in your parters that they wont go crazy on you... and vice versa.. talk about it before starting.. its about honor and respect...

Chael this is important enough for you to know so I am copying from my reply to another comment and pasting it in a separate comment here This is correct. Think about a steering wheel, the larger the wheel the more leverage that is applied. This leverage is being applied to your neck which has your brainstem inside of it. When you get whiplash it is actually a concussion to your brainstem and spinal cord in addition to the muscles and joints of the spine.

Pee era can box with out head gear but he’ll never be undefeated and undisputed, it’s just one of those things an interchangeable mediocrity if you will but if I may juxtapose this with where does Kevin Lee fit in all of this?

It bothers chael that this video doesn't involve Ramadan fighters. Idk what chael is so afraid of, he's rightfully retired. 2.i wonder what the next Dagestan request of card pull will be. "My religion brotha, my religion, don't you know!"chavier Mendez has to feel dirty. He's a comrade not a patriot.
