This song is epic. I consider "Violent Blue" one of the best recordings made by Steve Taylor.

My memory of this song. I'd read in the paper that Chagall Guevara would be performing and ducked into Mere Bulles an hour or so before walking down to the Urban Lounge. I actually sat on the floor to watch the concert. They had that same persian carpet on the floor. The performance was so incredible, unforgettable. This was back before 2nd Avenue became rife with Gaylord-run country bars. If you're from Nashville, you know what I'm talking about.

This band should have been so much more popular in the '90s. I grew up being a Steve Taylor fan, and even though I am no longer a Christian (I am an agnostic now), I still am a huge fan of his. Most Christian artists of his era were blatant rip-offs of other artists or bands, except 5-10 years behind. Steve Taylor was always cutting edge with his music. He still is. I also love how he is not afraid to call out the church on their bullshit.

While Steve Taylor is the front man, this band was certainly a collaboration and a rebuttle to the Christian market...I wish more people had "gotten it". This band was (one of, if not the best) crossover band ever, IMO. Great music, clever lyrics, great band image, etc...ok I'm babbling now... Thanks for the video..

I posted this song on here a LONG time ago, after band lead and founder Steve Taylor said that he didnt mind people downloading his music. I had since gotten a notice from the record company "allowing" me to leave the video up. How nice of them! (sarcasm)

Just to remind and upset... This was a BAND, not just a ST solo project. They all offered alot and added to the mix. Bad timing for the real world, no record company support (what's new?), and general confusion as to what kind of band they actually where...sad, indeed...

I think it's got more to do with ST's smouldering career at that time, he's probably addressing himself. Or at least the "self-righteous babble" of the CCM industry, who had been "blinded by their own light". For example I remember poor Amy Grant couldn't even get a divorce without seeing her records disappear from the shelves of the CCM stores. It's also telling that CG's album was released on RCA and not Word (or whoever). And the album took a less holier than thou stance than his solo stuff.
@narhan43586 жыл бұрын
It was released on both MCA and Sparrow, so it should have been distributed in the CCM market.

@eliascoblentz41445 жыл бұрын
Narhan It was released on Sparrow completely against the band’s wishes. This album was NEVER meant for CCM release. The distribution rights were sold to them by MCA because MCA was undergoing label restructuring, and was hurting for cash.
@TwoTixToParrishdise3 жыл бұрын
Did you seriously say poor Amy Grant? She cheated on her husband with another man who was cheating on his wife. They broke up their own marriages to be with each other. Her CD sales being affected was not the Christian music industry being blinded by their own light, it was Christians not tolerating blatant disregard for God's law and being unrepentant about it.
