I like it too. I thought it was a recent thing (within the last 10 years or so) but there was a Dan Aykroyd/Belushi sketch I watched where they did that also. It brings the whole theatrical feeling of it back to the tv.

I have no idea how accurate this is, but I remember reading once that the American Southern accent is sometimes the easiest American accent for British (specifically English) people to do. I’m an ex-pat and my friends and I love trying to copy each other’s accents; a lot of my British friends can do a really good Southern accent but aren’t as good at the basic generic American accent (or “Generican” as we like to call it).

It's only been an hour since I watched this & it's its in a loop in my head. "Cleaning up the dishes... " as I'm cleaning up after Mother's Day brunch. Worse than that "weed gummy" joint that infiltrated my head for weeks...
