Oh it was a much messier and harder process than modern maille. Generally there's was rivetted, not butted like this. Deb

I’m just beginning to look at jewelry making as a new interest and only now found your videos. What a beautiful piece you created and your instructions are spot on. A thought I had when you laid out the first step in the pattern was the possibility of making a ring. Make smaller diameter rings for a tighter pattern. Once the ring is completed, you would have the option of putting the ring on a ring mandrel and hammering it to flatten it to suit your taste.

howdy I just did this weave with 14swg 5/16 id bright aluminum and kelly green on the edges. it looks great but it is really tight. I still like it but have I dont the wrong size rings?
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard. Yeah, that ring size is a tad small. 14SWG is 2.0mm wire diameter so that ring size gives an actual AR of around 4....the ring IDs I demonstrated here have an actual AR of 4.8. If you like that gauge you could try maybe 3/8"ID rings. I haven't tried that size, but in theory they should work. HTH Deb

Looks like natural stone beads (which I love) could be captured in the tube. Would that be possible or is it too narrow in the middle?
@AussieMaillers
@AussieMaillers 5 жыл бұрын
I've never done it, and I am not sure I have ever seen a piece where someone has. The weave is quiet dense I am not sure there is actually room inside for beads (I don't have a piece handy so am going off memory). As with all things it is worth a try. If you try it, let us know how it went for you. Deb

So I made this bracelet for my son in 16swg brass which I believe has the same thickness as 14awg, 1.6. I was able to get 6mm sunstone n tigers eye beads in as I zipped it up. They are only prominent on that side and the scales are slightly raised, but I think he will like it.

Can you use AA rings and epdm rings for this weave?
@AussieMaillers

No, this is Persian Dragonscale. As I discussed at the end of the video, Dragonback is a similar weave and I mentioned the differences. You can see an article outlining the differences as I mentioned www.mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.php?key=493 you can see here the persian dragonscale as the middle rings leaning in different directions, as do the ones in the sample I showed on the video. Hope this clears it up for you. Deb
