When I was a child and my parents drove over this bridge, I was Is patrified with fear because of the open steel grading, than that very sharp turn in the middle of the bridge. I was so happy when they built the new bridges. I believe I can pedal across it now without the fear. Many years later I found out why the bridges had that open like grading, it was because of the Mayflies would hatch and land on the bridges and make it difficult to drive over. Up north on the Mississippi River they would use huge end loaders to remove the Mayflies. When they dumped them over the side the fish would go nuts for them.

Interesting to hear actual experiences driving over this bridge back in the day. Riding over I wondered how many car crashes occurred at that bend in the middle.

I hated that bridge when I was a kid. Dad drove over it to see family up until 1962 ( I was 12 years old ). I hated the grading where you could see the water and that sharp been in the middle of the bridge. The grading was for the Mayflies.
