I haven't heard of some of the restaurant names. As for Denny's one did close in my city. Then it reopened several months later under new ownership. As far as seeing restaurants close, I never like to see that. Then that means people have lost their jobs.

IanX92, this has been Friendly's plan since the early 90's To gradually leave the restaurant business, and focus on retail supermarket ice cream. Easier, more profitable, their ice cream is still as good as anyone's. After all, their trucks cost less than their stores.

Denny's was a trainwreck before the pandemic. We stopped going to Denny's almost 20 years ago because the food was bad and the service was worse, 6 customers, 3 waitresses, and a full kitchen staff yet after 30 minutes of no menus or even coffee we walked out and went to the diner down the street. It was packed and understaffed but we had our food within 15 minutes. Denny's started making their employees park in front to make it look like they have customers. If they tank I won't shed a tear

PLUS, one doesn't know what is going on in the kitchen with Gen XYZ+ layabouts (who should be earning 1/3 of advertised wages) while they learn how to work an actual job. I won't have them anywhere close to my food. I NEVER had a bad Denny's experience (!), but have only eaten out once (summer 2022 while selling a house and moving) since January 2020. I simply don't trust the employees and won't pay today's high food and labor prices to support them. Restaurant work is supposed to be a WELL-SUPERVISED stepping stone for high school and college students - not a career for grown adults. Won't even start talking about the riff-raff who drift in from the parking lot who have not been taught manners at home nor respect for anyone else. Wow! Could anyone have even imagined how this world has changed in the last several years? I feel quite badly for the entrepreneurs who run businesses.

@@billtravis523 FACTS. I feel the same way now about the restaurant industry. All of the restaurants in my local area are staffed by people who are well into their 20s and 30s who have nasty attitudes and don't want to work. The only fast food restaurant in my area that has high school or college age kids working Is Chic-Fil-A and I don't even trust their food anymore after seeing the recent viral video of that CFA employee in the kitchen spitting in the chicken batter and goofing off about it. The only places I will eat at now are restaurants that cook the food fresh in front of me like waffle house for example, that way I can watch and observe how they handle my food and how they prepare it.

Steak & Shake went to a kiosk-only ordering system when they reopened for indoor dining, and the experience has been far inferior to pre-pandemic table service. Boston Market has been decent on recent visits, but hardly any customers other than us each time. I hope Noodles & Co. sticks around, though, as I love pasta/noodle-based dishes. TGI Friday's locations that we've visited in the Chicago suburbs during the past year have had bad service; looking for alternatives.

The Friendlys Fishamajig sandwich is really tasty. It's like 2 filet fish from McDonald's and then some, on one sandwich. Add the tartar sauce and your fries, it's actually a juicy tasty piece of fish.

COVID killed off a lot of weaklings in retail/food. Then as restrictions got lifted, hello inflation/recession, so the customers they thought would come back can't afford to. So this second round of closures. Soon only the big boys like McDonald's and Walmart will still be standing.

I actually just saw Denny's that just recently closed down in person in Connecticut when I left my college campus a few days ago, and Friendlys actually closed down in my hometown in Long Island, New York about 3 years ago now. I miss that place a lot!

One trend a lot of these have in common from my experience is horrible customer service. Steak and shake, friendly’s, BDubs, Jack in the box etc all have the worst experience when dealing with employees while you look at winners like chick fil a and it’s the total opposite.

Our BWW closed and the building got bought by its more successful local competition. It was in an ideal location but still couldn't compete with the much smaller competition. BWW parking lot was only full during the superbowl but wings etc was always packed from open to close. The burgers and wings are far superior not to mention the sauce called the wall that can screw up an amateur (which I am not, done the wall 6 times)

Buffalo Wild Wings isn't going anywhere. Chicken wing joints are still insanely popular and Quaker Steaks, Wing Stops, etc... struggle to stay open all over the US. You can get chicken wings anywhere, but BWW basically have a monopoly on the combination of wings + sports bar.

Denny’s, TGI Friday’s, Steak & Shake, and Boston Market were all near a major intersection near me. TGIF and S & S and Denny’s closed last year. Boston Market closed today. Many new restaurants have opened in this area. People are getting tired of the same old places and are looking toward fresh new ideas. Oh, Fuddruckers was next to Denny’s. That closed too.

I had my 14th birthday dinner at a Joe’s Crab Shack in Edgewater, New Jersey. The saving grace of the location was that it was located on a pier jutting out over the Hudson River, which provided a spectacular view of Upper and Midtown Manhattan across the river. Other than that, many of my family members all claimed that the food and service was horrible. They said that the food wasn’t hot when they were served, they almost gave our food to someone else’s table, and we waited nearly 30 minutes to an hour to receive our food. I also asked a waitress to get me a shaker of salt for the steak I ordered and it took them between 10-15 minutes to get it. Coincidentally, the restaurant closed down only a month or two after my birthday dinner, which many of my family members saw as justice for the horrible experience they had there, I didn’t think it was that bad as I had eaten at that same Joe’s Crab Shack twice before that same year. The pier and building that once hosted Joe’s is now home to a new seafood restaurant called The Yacht Club.

There are a lot of good up and coming chains that can eventually replace the older struggling chains. First Watch (better than Denny's), Marco's Pizza and Blaze Pizza (better than Pizza Hut, Papa John's), Freddy's and Habit Burger Grill (better than Burger King, Checkers/Rally's), Zaxby's and Jollibee (better than KFC).

The lone Denny's in my area was long ago replaced by a Japanese hibachi-type restaurant which actually draws larger crowds. There's a Ruby Tuesday in my county's lone indoor mall which is still doing OK because it is close to the lone surviving anchor store, a Boscov's. Fuddrucker's was once known for top-notch burgers, but there is too much competition from Five Guys and others in the premium burger category. Friendly's has decent ice cream, but one of the two near me has closed along with the nearby VF Outlet.

My experience is that Quizno's has always been terrible - 2 near me in Los Angeles were closed by the Board of Health. Now in Atlanta, the 1 near me also closed-not sure of the reason though.

I’m sad to see TGI Fridays & Noodles & Company on the list! They both have had excellent food. But I however would be more than glad to see Quiznos & Jack in the Box be gone for good. Reason for me glad about Quiznos being gone if that happens is because unlike their competitors I’ve had sandwiches from! They always toast their sandwiches & don’t give you the option if you want it that way or not. And now for the reason I’d love to see all Jack in the Box stores gone for good! Main reason! There was one time I heard about their food poisoning their customers. And let alone! I heard one time from that! A mom & son at one point went there for a meal! The mom was fine! But her son died of Food Poisoning. Ever since that! I was glad I never ate there. Even though I never knew them! I still to this day honor that mom who lost her son from that.

I simply do not believe this video. Everybody I know went from once a week restaurant dinners to most nights now. Some restaurants will close as new and shinier places open but that has always been the case. Most of these franchises will be fine so long as they don't try to gouge the patrons.

I live in an area where local restaurants are better than national chains. Denny's has been terrible for decades. Fridays is tired. Sugar coated food to disguise low quality isn't cutting it anymore. Jack in the Box blew up the menu before and came back with streamlined options. They need to do that again. Too many options, all taste the same and costs too much. Why go to Boston Market when you can get everything at the grocery store deli for less?

Kept putting it off and just a few months ago i drive past it and it was closed but it didn’t looked burned down just out of business. My local Noodles & Co is only open M-F during lunch, because of this, I haven't went since before covid. I work during those times. Also their food that had broccoli in it, no longer has it and at my local store they have not replaced it with anything else. So in the kids meals they just get the pasta, nothing else and the price went up on them like all the other meals. I sent them a msg. today to see any other vegetable was being substituted, and they replied no. You can get applesauce, diced apples, or a krispy desert. That is it.

Down in Austin, a busy restaurant town, one of the Jacks is a cross from a really good local place called Short Stop. I doubt if Jack's gets 20% as much business as Short Stop in a typical day.

Our local steak and shake opens and within a 3-5 year time period it closes and gets sold to the next sucker. It got shutdown by the health department because the served a shake with pieces of glass in it. It just reopened a few months ago with new owners and management. I've yet to see more than 1 or 2 cars in the lot and nobody I know ever wants to go there again. It's complete garbage no matter how much you try to dress it up

TGI's has been closed in my city for over a year, still standing unoccupied. I liked the food in the 90's back in Massachusetts, but I've heard part of the reason it closed here was definitely not helped by the bug, the shortage, and the all around shitty attitudes of shitty kids called servers. Friendly's rocked, but both Qdoba and Chipotle are both gross. Support your local Mexican mom and pop stores. They actually know how to cook.
