I'm several hours into the VCV journey, thanks to your videos. I've made a little track along with some drums and its starting to sound pretty damn nice (thank you beginners luck). Now here I am to expand this musical embryo into several sequences with the help of this video. You've told us so many times now that 10 octaves is too much, I found myself saying it at the same time as you. All jokes aside, don/t change a thing, its really helpful. Thanks for all this dope content.

Too cool, this one made some more things click with me for sure. With both sequence chaining and polyphony. That is really neat how you can use one quantizer with polyphony to quantize different sequences. I always get so many ideas from your tutorials and just end up trying to make stuff when my goal is to do more tutorials and learn more 😆

thank you very much for your in depth explanation of all the modules you use. i find that very rare and being an open source format, of course everyone has their own favorites. this really helps in terms of learning the quirks of the individual modules, and why you might chose the ones you have in the video for each patch.

Your nerveous system must have assimilated the randomize function of VCV Rack, so when you hit random it doesn't sound random at all. Great stuff Omri!

hi Omri, I was successul in modulating my step lengths with voltages, the -1/+1 volt for /2 or *2 is understood. Now I'd like to know if there is a method I can use to calculate the "total" clock division it takes to cover the whole sequence, because I find that time information useful to clock the sequencer switch, especially when I want to alternate between sequences of different lengths. I see you did the math by yourself at 3:15. But if I sequenced voltages to modulate my clock, it will be nice to just find the result automatically. I'm also not sur how to patch the rests, but I feel the master reset should be located in the clock that pilots the switch, am I right? There's also the problem of making sure each sequence of the switch will start at step 0.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, well, I'm not so sure if there's a way to do this automatically. If there's an end of cycle output, then it's easier though. And yes, there reset should come from the main clock you're using. Don't forget that it could be quite interesting to have things not sit exactly right so everything keeps on moving.

Hey Omri, thanks for all your awesome videos. I am looking to chain two sequencers (steps), they both send an EOC trigger, what I wish to do is, i.e. have one sequence that is 8 steps and another that is 5 steps, and switch between them at their each EOC trigger… my problem is that I’d like to switch from one to the other, but if one is 3 steps and the other 8…. It retriggers itself before the other, can’t really figure out how to get around that… any tips?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Жыл бұрын
Hi! That was a tricky one, but I got it :) You have to use a switch to switch between the clock for each sequencer. You send your clock to a 1-2 switch, and you combine the EOC from both sequencers to trigger this switch. That way, each EOC will clock the other sequencer once after 8 steps, and once after 5 steps. It's not so easy to explain it here, so feel free to email me, and I can send you an example patch :)

@@OmriCohen-Music I'm not very smart but I'm extremely stubborn and I managed to find the solution. It was all related to splitting the clocks to synchronize the clock that drives the sequencer with the clock that drives the sequential switch and how they work togheter. Thank you in any case for your availability and I take this opportunity to thank you for all the work you are doing and to advise anyone who reads to purchase your pdfs which are very precious for a neophyte. If they are understandable to me it means that they are understandable to anyone and clearly explained. Good work and thank you again 🙂
