CHAINSAW dies BOGS when throttling -12 Reasons Why!
An Enlightening Explanation of Diaphragm & Gasket Fitting positioning FOR GREATER KNOWLEDGE
A chainsaw can stall or die when throttled due to various issues. Here are the common reasons why this might occur:
Air-Fuel Mixture: An incorrect air-fuel mixture can lead to stalling. If the mixture is too lean (more air, less fuel) or too rich (more fuel, less air), it can affect engine operation.
Clogged Air Filter: A dirty or clogged air filter restricts the airflow to the engine, resulting in inadequate combustion and stalling.
Fuel Filter Issues: A clogged or dirty fuel filter can limit the flow of fuel to the carburetor, causing power loss and stalling.
Spark Plug Problems: A fouled or worn-out spark plug can lead to poor ignition, misfires, and engine stall.
Fuel Quality: Stale or contaminated fuel can cause starting and running problems, including stalling.
Carburetor Troubles: Issues with the carburetor, such as a malfunctioning float, stuck needle valve, or clogged jets, can result in stalling when throttled.
Exhaust Blockage: A blocked exhaust, often due to carbon deposits or debris, can restrict the flow of exhaust gases and affect engine performance.
Ignition System Issues: Problems with the ignition coil, spark plug wire, or ignition module can disrupt the spark, causing the engine to stall.
Throttle Linkage Problems: Misadjusted or damaged throttle linkage can lead to poor throttle response and engine stall.
Compression Loss: A loss of compression due to issues like worn piston rings, damaged cylinder walls, or a blown head gasket can result in poor engine performance and stalling.
Vacuum Leaks: Leaks in the engine's vacuum system, like a cracked or disconnected vacuum hose, can disrupt the air-fuel mixture and lead to stalling.
Idle Adjustment: Incorrect idle speed settings can cause stalling when transitioning from idle to throttle.
Overheating: Engine overheating, often due to a lack of proper cooling or air circulation, can lead to damage and stalling.
Dirty or Worn Carburetor Parts: Accumulated dirt or wear in carburetor components like diaphragms, jets, or gaskets can affect fuel delivery and engine performance.
Muffler Problems: A damaged or malfunctioning muffler can lead to restricted exhaust flow and poor engine operation.
Fuel Line Issues: Cracked or deteriorated fuel lines can result in fuel delivery problems, causing stalling.
Oil-to-Gas Ratio: Incorrect oil-to-gas ratio in the fuel mix for two-stroke chainsaws can affect combustion and result in stalling.
Intake Manifold Leaks: Leaks in the intake manifold gasket or boot can disrupt the air-fuel mixture, causing stalling.
Fuel Vent Issues: Problems with the fuel tank's venting system can create a vacuum in the tank, limiting fuel flow and causing stalling.
Inadequate Chain Lubrication: Chainsaw chain lubrication issues can lead to increased resistance and affect engine performance when cutting.
Identifying and addressing these issues is crucial for maintaining a chainsaw's performance, preventing stalling, and ensuring safe operation. Proper maintenance and troubleshooting are essential for resolving these problems.
This principle works for most types of Chainsaw saws, and the following also helps with Chainsaw maintenance. So, whether you are using a Stihl Chainsaw, Husquvarna Chainsaw, basically, all types of Petrol Chainsaw are valid for this principle, as well as many types of or a 2 Stroke Engine. The Electric Chainsaw, of course, escapes this whole principle!

Dear Sir,I don't know how much thanks to say in here to you. But after I watched this video that I understand completely the concept of the carburetor in a small engine. Also I had a Echo back pack blower that was given me a hard time to start. The problem was found in the metering diaphragm. Replaced new diaphragm and I'm back to the business. Thanks so much for your time to explained and work thru every single steps. Please keep posting. You were a big helped a lot of us out here.Regards, Mino Haong

After having watched hundreds and hundreds of videos on similar subject matter I can't sing enough praises for yours. Granted it is a bit long but absolutely necessary to achieve the exceptional clarity you provide. Anyone who won't watch the whole thing doesn't deserve the knowledge you attempt to share. I'm a civil engineer and a professional instructor in several technical areas. At no time have I seen anyone with your ability to simplify and elucidate on such a major issue that has dozens of causes. I consider myself privileged to partake of your instruction. On the whole of my internet experience I have subscribed to only a few sites. I have learned as much on providing instruction as I have in content here. I shall add you to my very few favored providers of instruction. Thank you for your efforts in this regard. Sincerely, Kenneth E. Weldon, PE>

Understanding the concepts and principles of operation is probably ten times better for me than all of the "how-to" videos I've come across so far. I've already gone through the carburetor five times, and even replaced the two diaphragms, after this video, I went through it once more, for all of the little things I neglected to check, and decided the problem wasn't there. The Stihl MS 310 isn't quite the same as this, but the principles are the same. I made it my plan, to go through this list, one item at a time, and the most likely culprits first. The next most likely seemed to be the fuel line, and although it looked fine, a little bit of air pressure revealed it to be broken. Problem solved! In a matter of about one hour, a problem I've been chasing for two weeks, now (about six years, of you count the time it's been sitting because of this problem). This will help in my neighborhood, after the destruction wrought on us, here in Florida, by Hurricane Matthew. Thanks for this brilliant and comprehensive video.

Robert Mertens I have a Stihl MS 210c chainsaw and found it's problem to be a cracked "dry-rotted" fuel line with a tiny hole in it. I suspected that was the problem for a good while but couldn't confirm it til I just happened to have the air filter cover off and noticed fuel spraying out of the fuel line. Whatever the case may be, my friend...stay inquisitive and always do your research. KZbin is a TREMENDOUS tool for learning. Use KZbin for all it's worth!!

Lawnmower shops don't want to deal w/these lil 2 stroke engines. They all use Zaymmer Carb's almost. I just learned tonight about the "SPARK ARRESTOR" that completely cloggs up & cause the engine to idel but not run i.e. no where for the burned fuel to get out cause bog down. I've never seen a lawnmower man speak of that. But I would bet a dollar thats whats wrong w/my Ryobi I bought a new Carb for my Pouland after trying 2 battery powered trimmers one only had one line 20v Lithium so I tried a 40v two line trimmer it was DOA batteries wouldn't charge. So I knew there be someone like this gentleman that covers this on a school level instruction very good resource for sure.
@williammanning3174
@williammanning3174 6 жыл бұрын
Watchman4u If you're having problems with your spark arrestor clogging up, you may be putting too much oil in the gas. If the tool in question is a Stihl chainsaw, then it probably wants 50:1. Too much oil can cause other problems with carbon buildup. My old Ryobi trimmer called for 32:1 and it stopped running because the ring got stuck in its groove and it lost compression. The truth is that you never need any more than 50:1 but the carburetor will have to be adjusted to use that ratio properly. Adding more oil to the gas will lean out the air/fuel mixture while decreasing the oil will richen the mixture. If your carb requires a special tool to adjust the screws, just cut a groove in them with a hacksaw. Be careful to not cut too deep. You can find detailed instructions on how to tune a 2 cycle carb on the internet too. I hope this helps.

Low is adjusted for quick trigger response, and the high is adjusted for high speed power. I always adjusted the high to rev at its highest speed, and then opened it slighty more, to provide extra lubrication into the engine, but not so much to lose power. This prolonged the life of the engine. ( I fell timber, in my younger days, and always re-kitted my own equipment carborators.)

Thanks for the very helpful video. I failed to notice it was over an hour long, which was just as well as I may have missed what was so helpful! I was inspired to fix a poorly pole chainsaw. Now works sweetly. I was cleaning my father's mower carb when a child but never had a clue what was happening... Now 50 years later it is clearer. Then fixed an electric mower, electric scarifier and finally my troublesome old Honda powered 4 stroke mower. Using some of your principles, and others ideas. Then cut the grass! Other folks comments cause no little levity and so glad you were polite even with some provocation. Thanks again for your efforts. Keep up the good work.

Very helpful video. By far the best video I have seen yet! I love the way you incorporate the use of the drawings to clearly demonstrate what is happening and why. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and in a way that is easy to understand.

This is one of the best, if not the best how to video I have every seen. I am sure it took alot of time to create and that it is free to the viewer is a real blessing. One question, if your barrel seal or crankcase seal is leaking, would you see any oil or fuel residue? Thank you for your effort and congratulations for the quality of this video.

Thank's. Your fundamental principles, operation, service, and repair's through your video and experience helped. Explaining how each system works, and what could happen, clearly showed, by illustration, how the energy in fuel mixture, is converted into power. Powerful video.

Hi i am from Brazil and found it very interesting this video, I live on a small farm and use a lot of mowing. Right now my mowing does not have acceleration and became very clear to me how the carburetor works.

Wow. Wow. Wow! I’ve watched half of this video and decided to take a short break so that my attention to your details is maintained. This is not a complaint, rather a tremendous compliment to the thoroughness of your effort. I am getting an education on carburetors like never before. I’ve just recently begun investing more time into self diagnosing and fixing my various machines, and although I’ve gained tremendously from many other “how to” videos on KZbin, this clearly spoken, well thought out visuals/animations, and altogether wonderfully educational video is a real treasure. Thank you sir for the exquisite and time consuming effort you have put into this to share your obviously abundant knowledge. Alan
