The thing that I think people miss with Denji at first, is that it's entirely because he has no idea what he wants. So he'll go for basic things, or actions he knows on some level that "boys are supposed to want" etc. Denji has never even had room to think for himself, or act in anyway that wasn't a survival instinct. And then, confronted with a level of freedom he could only dream about, how was he supposed to choose what he wanted in life. Especially while working through trauma. With things revealed towards the end, a part of him probably doesn't even believe he 'deserves' more than that.

That's really interesting. Yeah, his story is all about becoming human, that's why at he beginning he's treated like a dog. But by the end he realizes that although that may be easy, he doesn't want to be a pet. It allows for chainsaw man to explore morality in a really interesting way.

I've been postponing reading it for some reason, which is weird because, from the outside, it looks very similar to Dorohedoro (My favorite fucking manga ever...EVER) both in it's art and in it's insanity. Hell, studio Mappa even made the Dorohedoro anime too. I gotta read this shit.

I think people's over hype for this series is going to hurt the anime. Personally I thought the story telling was random and borderline incoherent. I never find anime/manga humor funny either so all the comedy the shows attempts is useless to me too. Also wasnt a fan of the messy, sometimes unfinished looking art style.
