This honestly reminds me of Denji’s overall attitude in Part 2 (EXTREME SPOILERS FOR ANIME ONLIES.) After everything that Makima’s taken away from him, Denji is so… depressive. He always looks tired, he never reacts with much joy to anything anymore, and in general he’s way less optimistic and manically happy than before. Furthermore, the fact that Yoru is trying to kill him with Asa, yet Asa herself doesn’t want to hurt him but is forced to because of Yoru… Denji is so clearly hurt and tired from all the loss, and very soon he’s about to become hurt once again by yet another woman that he tried to love. Asa genuinely loves Denji, yet she’s going to end up hurting him all the same, just like the others. It’s fucking depressing… 😢
