Keep in mine this saw is my go to fire wood saw, not a high rev’n leaned out race saw. This vid is how I did it... made it work, showing some mess ups, learning from them, and over coming the obstacles. The 455 x-torq, is still working great to this day, with my original tune, yes 1/4 turn counter clockwise on both jets from the factory settings, the idle, had to mess with a bit, depending on temp and elevation, but she’d b still pulling wood in the cut better than before, and will not be going back to a stock set up anytime soon. Rather run a saw a little rich in the cut than to lean IMO especially when pulling a larger type bar set up.

10:30 "MORE AIR TO FUEL EQUALS MORE POWER". A leaner mixture (more air to fuel) will only give you more power if you're running too rich, but it will run hotter unless you're running "lean of peak", which is quite tricky.

Seems to be a bit more trickier than expected with an x-torque to boot

The needle adjustment limiters are soft plastic. You can use a sharp pocket knife to cut the stops off or just trim one or both widths to allow more range.

On the Huskies you just push them in and once you turn the screw let them pop back out and you done ,no dremel needed lol

In fact I usually run my chains backwards and inside out!!! Lol! Test cut went ass backwards, hence test cut and plastic meltdowns. The carb adjustments worked well for this saw, no two saws are a like, tune the saw by ear, is what may dad always said!

This lets me know not to modify anything I had a 455 and still have my 460 ive had them on big tree jobs where we made alot more big cuts than normal because we had to move the wood by hand. Always had plenty enough power.
@tfloutdoors3274 жыл бұрын
Wait...you got rid off the 455? Not an enough power? Or...But still have the 460...I don’t own a 460, but I have used one for a day, they are great saws with a bit more cc displacement, specked to pull a 24” bar and its a bit heavier than its smaller brother the 55, the 55 series was only designed for a 20” bar max, I know the saw world people told me the same thing, it’s a power to weight ratio with this whole idea. Who knows the 55 might get a 460 top end some day!

If you pull the jet screw out you can pull the guards off and put the screws back in

it's completely the opposite more fuel, more hp and torque and more lubrication to the piston and bearings of course it has to be tuning, depending on the temperature, humidity and size of the bar it will last much longer and withstand more rotation when cutting in wood
@tfloutdoors3272 жыл бұрын
So true, 👍more fuel will cause the saw to cough and bog there’s definitely a fine line in there. I should have worded it differently, I was thinking of a leaned out saw that would need more fuel to keep it running cooler and stronger in the wood rather popping and starving of fuel, thanks for the comment and watching my video

I'm a little surprised to have seen that your two carburator adjustment jets are both blocked with caps so the average Joe can't mess with the carburator tuning. Let me ask where did you buy that 455 from ? You get it from somewhere commercial like Lowes or Tractor Supply or did you get it from an actual real Husqvarna dealer that runs out of a small engine sales and repair facility reason I ask these questions are ive myself had about 8 different Husqvarna chainsaws and 1 Jonsered (newer one made by Husqvarna) over the years and they've all come from a real Husqvarna dealer , and not a single one of those 9 saws have ever had caps or any type of device initially blocking my access to the two Lo and Hi side jets, so I'm wondering if maybe only saws sold at Lowes and Tractor Supply come with those limiter caps on them because like I've said I never have had a single 1 Husqvarna come with those caps on them. Also you really should spend the very minimal $20-30 cost for a basic tachometer to properly be able to tune your saws and other equipment as your 455 sounded like it was running considerably shy of what should be it's peak operating RPM, sounds like your not revving hi enough, and it does sound hair rich honestly, I'd retune that saw properly with a tach bro, it's well worth the petty cost of $20-30 for a basic one that'll get the job done, I mean is it really worth risking the life of your engine on a what $450 or so machine ? Id much rather spend $20-30 for a tach to properly tune the saw than spend $150-200 in OEM parts needed to rebuild your top end as a result of an improper carb tune setting.
@tfloutdoors3273 жыл бұрын
Good point! I have been thinking about a tach, haven’t got there yet, but eventually we’ll be there, saw came in to me by trade, some many years back, not sure of the details of which dealer, or department store it may have come from, just an under powered fire wood cutting saw in stock form, that needed a little boost. Cheers!!!

Eric, I’ve modded my own stock Husky 460 and I’m now modding my 440 since I already had a crankcase seal leak. Anyway, I have more fun with my “homeowner” saws than my pro saws because it’s more satisfying modding a stock homey into something hotter with stuff like proper muffler mods etc.. I write because I use a tach, but the question here is what spec RPM are we looking for after we sink a 460 head and piston on a 455? Also, lots of guys (not including you) focus a bit too much on high end RPM revving but they don’t see the loss of torque issue. It’s a fine balance. I’d be interested to know how you would employ the tach in this specific case. What spec are we looking for or are we just tuning it by ear? You definitely know your stuff and I like to share information and learn from other saw junkies like me. Thanks

A 2 stroke engine requires a certain amount of back pressure from the exhaust in order to run properly. if the back pressure isn't timed correctly then you just lose fuel air Mixter out the exhaust.
@justinstclair5707 Жыл бұрын
if opening stuff up try timing advance

Okay, you don't tune a saw by just guessing quarter turn on both screws, also your first test cut did you have the chain on backwards? Lol that thing was blunt man.

@@tfloutdoors327 Thanks for the reply. I will do this to mine. What chain do you recommend to run with it after the mods?
@tfloutdoors3274 жыл бұрын
Currently running a 3/8 full skip chain, seems to work well on the longer 24” bar, less drag in the cut, if your running a 20” bar you’ll be fine with a full house chain, which I have ran for years.The longer bar is great for limbing and ground work and can handle larger tasks as well, maintaining the rakers and chain sharpness is so important with this set!

Northwest Nomad They’re just the cheap aftermarket dogs, ordered them on line, I wasn’t very satisfied though, they required some minor modifications to the outer dog to make it fit properly to the chain cover, but once fitted, I really like them, plus help a ton with felling and bucking

How did you get double dogs on that thing ,my 455 doesnt seem to have any place to bolt on an outer set ??? Thsnks
@tfloutdoors3274 жыл бұрын
Jason Blanton The after market felling dogs are kind of a pain to install on the 455, so the outer dog uses the side cover studs, and nuts to secure it into place, if I remember correctly I had to modify the outer dog by grinding the edges by the two mounting hole, allowing it to sit flush on the side cover. Thinking I removed a 1/8 or more of material to the top and bottom of the mounting areas of that particular dog. Sucks they don’t bolt right up, I feel your pain, but with some fine tuning they work really well!

On the inter webs, it a Tsumara, light weight, 3/8 bar! It’s been working great so far, love it actually, almost the same cost and weights as a stock replacement 20” from husky.
