Chairs provide stability and comfort. I think its a metaphor for trying achieve a place in society where you can get that. Others arent successful in achieving stability and some fail more quickly than others despite trying hard and they are forced to leave into a place of nothingness and left behind because everyones only focused on trying to secure their own seat on the "chair" to do anything else.

I love how the chair retains its clear shape throughout, even from far away, the tension is so palpable, and I love the ending. We live in a time where aesthetic means so much, people love color and big eyes, I'm glad you made something stark and different when there's so much pressure to do the opposite

metaphor for life? when you think you have just done all it takes to be seated you look aroundand see others have had a hard time being seated as well, just to realize thats what is going on with existence in general,seat taking

@@monkeyking734 believe it or not this was shot old-school. So paper frames are placed down and shot on a 16mm film animation camera called Oxberry. Even the pan, zooms are manual with a hand crank! Later the 16mm film was transferred to digital.www.oxberry.com/filmaker_page.html

To me it's about how we are confining and restraining our infinite and ever expanding souls with mere 3d achievements and societal pressure (notice how chairs themselves are hanging and pulled downwards by gravity but the bodies are shown to float upwards).

This could be seen as someone trying to find their place in the world, struggling to grasp at it and finally attaining it in the end. But we also come to the conclusion that, we're not alone in this and at times some fail to find their place and just fall into the abyss.
@evieisleavie
@evieisleavie 4 жыл бұрын
Or that once we find our place in the world we come to the conclusion that we're just like everyone else and the only way to be free of the "safety in purgatory" that the man-made illusory construct of the chair comes with is to let go and find our own fucking way. But in truth, most of us will simply die without the leash of the safety chair holding us from the great abyss.
@evieisleavie
@evieisleavie 4 жыл бұрын
I mean, if you think about it, we could only see the person at first. At the end, we see everything he could already see all around him. Those are all the examples of people who got this situation to work for them in their own sad way. They're simply sitting around doing nothing, waiting to die. But they're safe. But as he's falling, he sees they're safe; that's ALL he sees in that terror-filled moment. So he follows their example to be safe, never knowing what happens when you reject the leash. And he becomes like them.
@evieisleavie
@evieisleavie 4 жыл бұрын
The apathy these people who made it on their chairs show to the people falling is truly abhorrent. They watch from their safety net and do NOTHING while people, brethren die all around them, crying out for help, for direction. Maybe the masses of people in their chairs have it in their mind that life in this twisted world is meaningless, and their only choice is between a slow, meaningless, coddled death atop a chair and the unknown fall that would certainly lead them to a painful death. Maybe they all know this and have lost hope, despite the fact that there may be a different way to live if they jump and take their life into their own hands.

@@evieisleavie some art is less a message and more a reflection of yourself that you want to see. To someone who thinks this, you can determine what your own woes are. Maybe you should look at these comments you made to find out what makes you unhappy, now that a year has passed and you've likely forgotten what you wrote.
