Awesome video, the boulder 1:08:31 was developed by my friends and I back in the early 90's. We named it "The Ozzy" boulder because Ozzy was playing on the radio at the time we spotted it driving up the hill. We lived at the top of Candelaria and would boulder at the "Oz" every day after work. It's so cool to see someone working it. Nice route by the way.

fun vid! looked like a guy near the end of the movie free climbed the same route as the guy dry tooled near the start of the movie? if so then isn't the dry tooling damaging the rock for free climbing and since there is not ice on the route then dry tooling is wrong.!?

GREAT movie. I grew up in NM. It is an incredible state with incredible experiences and incredible people. It shaped me as a person. But I never climbed there. I moved to the east coast and now I climb. So this movie makes me want to come back! BTW I would love to find the music that played during the credits. Is that Was Elijah?

what a great video. i randomly got into it and found it great. Very good camera work and post. Great quality. Climbing is very good and the kids and gals are very talented, very young yet talking seriously. Whan an inspiration. I may only dislike a lil bit the "restaurant" section. it's really a bit too much of an endorsement for a climbing video. It sounds just too "local". Keep it up with the great work, looking forward for part 2.

To the woman wearing the helmet... that's what you are worried about? Climbing huge rock faces and you are worried about hurting your head? That's some kind of helmet... does it help when you plummet 100-200 feet to the ground? I think what you all do is amazing. I have trouble watching it without my stomach turning. Stay safe.
@ashersoryl9 жыл бұрын
There are many reasons that climbers wear helmets. Rockfalls, preclipping falls, clumsily banging your head on the rock while climbing, rockfalls while belaying (you get knocked out and your climber could die), freak lead falls... The list goes on. I know a number of people who have had serious accidents and survived due to their helmet. I also know somebody who suffered a severe brain haemorrhage from not wearing a helmet. Climbing isn't dangerous, but not following safety procedures whilst climbing is.

So, in the opening section it appears a guy is wearing rock climbing rubber while ascending with ICE TOOLS! Is this the norm in Albuquerque? I know if this were seen at any other majorly developed CRAG in the United States the climber would likely get their asses kicked. It destroys the natural rock and is ethically dismissive to sport climbers, boulderers, and the like. I understand mixed climbing and while the video is mostly good for positive climbing publication and awareness, ice climbing tools DO NOT belong in the sport climbing arena. Period. Poor decision!
@Johney_Nomadic88810 жыл бұрын
Yup, its official... The section with the guy climbing with ice tools shows clearly he isn't using rubber "stoppers" on his ice axes or ANYTHING to protect the rock. This is disgraceful, an abomination to climbing ethic.
@anthonygaussoin70439 жыл бұрын
I do not live in NM, but I would guess this is not the case. He most likely bolted those routs specifically for mixed climbing. Moreover this is usually done on rock that is not suitable for regular climbing meaning it is too loose or brittle. It is true that mixed climbing should not be done on established (or possible future) sport or trad climbs.
@Johney_Nomadic8889 жыл бұрын
In the scene there are clearly chalk lines on the route he is climbing. It appears as if it's a developed crag; in fact, one can clearly see other chalk lines on either side of him as well. Thumbs down!
@anthonygaussoin70439 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Hogue I noticed the chalk as well. Could be bad form, just giving the benefit of the doubt.

Jonathan Hogue wouldnt putting metal in a crack and chipping the holds off inside the crack be on par with the "bad ethics" you're describing?
