This is the best ever! I’ll be trying this on my mother’s H.E. Shaw secretary spinet desk, from the early 1900s. It is mahogany with black paint, so worn off and a mess. I’m still a novice, and have been looking for a lovely chalk paint way of restoring this piece without sanding. Thank you so much! This is simply stunning…

I'm about to paint a small nightstand/end table which has hardware that cannot be removed. After painting a small sections today to make sure the paint will stick (i got it off the curb I have no idea what type of finish it has or even material...I think it's laminate and paint 🤨) I thought "eh I don't feel like buying even more supplies I'll just have to paint the hardware with the rest". Nope, after this video I'm sold. I'm getting the gilding wax I've been contemplating over the last few days and that's that. It looks good just being chalk painted but it looks amazing with the metallic wax. It really makes a HUGE difference. And I want my first project to look AMAZING 😉 thank you!

About half way thru this video, when you were applying the stencil, the top looked like MARBLE! ...lol...and you never ever mentioned that. what a pretty piece! I have never run across pulls or knobs where they have been glued in...but pulls are so expensive! It's much easier to paint over them. Thank you for the tutorial on how to make knobs pretty again. Love that rose gold!

Hi Marilyn! Yes it was an odd piece for the drawer pulls, I could not find how the drawer pulls were attached it looked like it was glued on. Wow--this is sooo beautiful! I'm planning on painting my kitchen floor and would love to create a similar effect to what you did on top--this would mean doing a wash or two before I use the stencil (which I'll distress anyway). I'm playing with some interesting colors, btw: Base color: 1/2 Tilton + Country Gray Stencil color: 1/2 Tilton + French Linen Very tempted to bring in a lighter color some Old Ochre or Old White (mixed with a tiny bit of Tilton)--but not sure. I want to make sure that the floor is good at hiding dirt, so too light might not be good. The stencil, btw, is a Moroccan pattern. I'm definitely going for a quite distressed look, so I love how the washes work. My only concern is how much work this will all be since it's a floor. I wonder if there's a simpler way to do it. Any thoughts? I have a roller that is like a big sponge; maybe that could help in some way. Anyway, love this and your other videos. Great stuff!

Do you perhaps have a vlog where you say which colors would go together?
@kcmarie19283 жыл бұрын
Love this look overall, the only thing I would tweek is that the stencil was straight while the dresser top was curved. If you could find a stencil that matched the curve or one that you just put in a few places it would look better in my opinion.

Christina, absolutely love your work. I wanted to know if The top is damaged, after you fill it in and sand it. You can paint it and then apply the Gel Stain on top of the paint, correct? I am new to all of this and just purchased my first little piece to transform. Going to try the ragging technique on the piece. Excited to play with it
@TheReclaimedHeirloom4 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan! Welcome to my channel! I have have done as you described and it worked out for me just fine. If you fill and sand the top and its not too bad you can do the gel stain on the top directly if you like. A tip that a viewer mentioned to me was when you fill with the wood filler you could mix in a bit of the gel stain that will colour the wood filler so it is more of a closer match when you gel stain the entire top. I have to try that myself but I thought it was a good tip! 🎨🙏❤️

Hi!!! No I did not seal the base before the wash, just make sure the base is dry! ❤️🎨🙏
@floha87523 жыл бұрын
Hi Christina, first of all, I love your work, it is always very inspiring. Above all, I find colour washes very exciting. When I do a wash, it always happens that my base colour mixes with the wash. I let the base coat dry for between 24 and 48 hours, but the colour always comes off and mixes with the wash. I've done it the way you show in the tutorials, but have also used a very damp brush and spray bottle to spread the paint and then wipe it off. I have the same problem with both techniques. I have to admit, it's a bit frustrating. Is this normal or am I making a mistake? Am I mixing the paint too liquid? Am I working too slowly when wiping or ragging, so that the water has a chance to penetrate the paint? I would appreciate, if you have any advice or tip for me, thank you!
