I done this technique with olive green, charcoal and brown with a bit of ivory, but chalk paints are expensive, so I opted to use the base coat of charcoal in chalk paint, then used acrylic paints thinned down with water or floetrol to achieve the same effect, once the base coat of chalk paint is on, then you can use acrylic paints over the top and seal it all with a water based matt varnish if you still want to keep the matt look of your furniture.

Hi Christine, for this one yes. Thanks for watching! ❤️🎨🙏
@floha87523 жыл бұрын
Hi Christina, first of all, I love your work, it is always very inspiring. Above all, I find colour washes very exciting. When I do a wash, it always happens that my base colour mixes with the wash. I let the base coat dry for between 24 and 48 hours, but the colour always comes off and mixes with the wash. I've done it the way you show in the tutorials, but have also used a very damp brush and spray bottle to spread the paint and then wipe it off. I have the same problem with both techniques. I have to admit, it's a bit frustrating. Is this normal or am I making a mistake? Am I mixing the paint too liquid? Am I working too slowly when wiping or ragging, so that the water has a chance to penetrate the paint? I would appreciate, if you have any advice or tip for me, thank you!

Thank you so much for doing the tutorial. Love this look. Did you have a clear coat of wax on the top before applying the dark wax? I tried to watch closely when you were using the dry cloth versus the wet cloth. Kinda confused about when you which from dry to wet. Thanks again
@TheReclaimedHeirloom4 жыл бұрын
Jane Tucker ... thank you so much Jane for your kind comment and questions 🙏🎨 So yes I clear waxed the entire piece first before any black wax 😉 And for the dry and wet rags (shop towels) there is no right or wrong way, it’s just nice to have both because you are painting with a wash paint and with it being so moist sometimes you need a dry rag and using the wet rag you are able to control where you want your colour tones, so are able to control how much was you want remaining or not by having both! I really recommend playing with both to feel and see how you like the wash tones then you can use either or both to create your design, you can always apply more if you take away to much with the dry and if you like the effect of the wash you can move the wash tone around where you want the colour wash to display on your design ❤️👍🏻 Hope this helps? It’s tricky to explain, but I can say it’s super fun and truly easy it’s all about having some fun! 😍

@TheReclaimedHeirloom4 жыл бұрын
cinta ... thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words 🙏💙 Absolutely your design idea with old white and duck egg/ Louis blue will be gorgeous!! 💙 I recommend you seal your project with clear wax and then start small with the black wax and build up more as you like, it can be a lot of work taking off if you add to much ( I learned the hard way lol 😂) so just add a little and stand back , add more until your happy with your results! It sounds like a fantastic project!! The ragging technique is fun, and beautiful results! I would absolutely love to see your photos when your completed 🤗

@TheReclaimedHeirloom4 жыл бұрын
Fran Wall .. thank you so much Fran 🙏💙 for your thoughtful comment and support 🤗🎨 The wet and dry rags are so you can control the moisture of your wash as well as move the colour tones around! To someone who hasn’t tried before , start with dry and add another wash then play with the moist rag, you will feel and see what the effects are doing and understand that you have a lot of control where you want your design to go! 😉💙

Hi Christina! Love the look with the ragging technique...came out just beautiful🙌🏻🌟 I purchased a buffet to do for my dining room...it’s gorgeous....old ....probably 1920s...lots of cool details. I’m curious as to how you would describe the difference between blending with Wooster tool and ragging technique? My guess is more texture with ragging technique?? What would you recommend to the novice for best results.....I have painted furniture before...just getting into blending etc. my piece is mahogany think I’m going to paint the top and side doors blending into middle drawers leaving them alone ( just clean up and seal) doing same with legs...maybe not sure🤔 I love mahogany furniture but the top is not in good condition....let me know what you think about which technique you think easier on beginner to blending....as always Thank You for sharing😊k
@TheReclaimedHeirloom4 жыл бұрын
Kimberly Drake ... thank you so much for your thoughtful comment Kimberly 🙏❤️ As for your project, based on your outline I would have to say the ragging technique would be beautiful and for a darker would try lighter tones to make it pop, like old white and French Linen maybe a little touch of graphite for a touch a dimension just a little hint 😉🎨 But remember weather your a beginner or experienced you can do it! Be brave , it’s only paint and water base too! It won’t hurt your piece and for any reason you don’t first plan try another , I have done that many times! And sometimes the first choice I loved it! Think 🤔 of yourself getting ready to go out for a beautiful evening with friends and you want to look great! How many times do we change a few times until we find the right combination and then we are like that’s perfect 👌 Painting is similar, sometimes we get the first time but it’s totally fine to change your mind! I really love the idea of having the mix of natural wood and framed with the paint ,so adding a texture technique is fantastic! I would absolutely love to see your completed project! If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉🤗🎨

Christina Martinez ... thank you so much Christina for your kind comment and I have heard of DIY paints. I have seen some of her videos and she does a fantastic job on her videos! It would great to make a project with the rich colours of that colour collection 💙🎨
