Really beautiful result! Those springs sure looked like a headache to put in! My mom has told me how much she loved the Biedermeier chairs her grandma had in Hungary. She said the fabric was really colourful, but I’m guessing that they had been reupholstered. I think that the generations of people who had and loved these chairs would be pleased with your result ❤️

Great work! A little hint on your english translation: in the german language the word "Federn" (engl. feathers) is used s for the outer cover, plumage, of birds and also for metallic devices that can be compressed and expanded. The english word for the latter term is "spring". So you put in to the chair new springs, not feathers.

Wow, what a contest! IL Makerstauratore had a vienna straw chair in the XVI style with a broken cane seat and dry wood. He did a great job refinishing the wood and replacing the cane seat, but I felt (in my opinion) it lacked some of the technical skill that would be involved with replacing a spring seat or replicating an arm. That's why I put him in third place. AT Restoration, I think his chair started out in the worst condition, and that guy is a master at woodworking, he replicated the seat, at least one spindle and an arm. However, I felt that his staining was splotchy. But he's very technically strong in replacing missing elements. Chrigun: The Old Biedermeier chair needed lots of TLC. You replaced missing details, filled in holes, reglued or replaced veneer, replaced the head of a chair leg, and replaced the seat with springs. Everything AT Restoration did, you did. But your staining and finishing was better, which is why I would give you first place. Now where is my blue ribbon...

Your close-up (macro) videography, lighting & sound quality is excellent, I appreciate seeing things done slowly so I have time to think about your process.

I love when you must take off damaged veneer, and then save the small pieces to restore other parts of the furniture. Such care is moving, I have no other word. I love old furniture, the amount of history embedded in them, and I'm still trying to find HERE traditional products (as you have), like some kinds of glues, lacquers, waxes, to preserve them as original as I can. Alas, we are a too modern country, and poor, it means there is nothing of the sort here, and importing them is quite impo$$ible 🙄. Still trying to do my best, even if doesn't come close to what YOU do, not just because of appropriate insumes and tools - but your skill!! Wonderful 😳🤩. Humble compliments!

The work you did on the veneer was great and you showed that no piece of furniture deserves to go to the landfill if at least some parts are still solid. Those springs ("feathers") looked way too thick for this application the minute you showed them, so I'm not surprised at all that they gave you difficulty! I'm not an expert, just someone who has watched quite a lot of this kind of work. Have you seen Ahti do reupholstery? It never looks easy, even though it's clear he knows what he's doing at every stage and it always comes out perfect. What I'm saying is, you did a brave thing in trying this out for the first time on a challenge, and the seat came out far better at the end than I was afraid it would when I first saw those springs. 💜 Both you and Il Makerstauratore have a new subscriber thanks to this fun challenge.

I watched the whole video just because of the competition you have. But the Audio sync issue is horrible, almost unwatchable. Better put some music in the background maybe. I don't speak well German so I can't complain too much about translation errors, but for example is not feathers but springs you put for the first time on a chair. Though I liked your work so instead of like on this video i gave to you subscribe and see in the future if things improve.

---- Hello colleague, a lot of work has been done, difficult, very difficult. The most difficult part of the job is to fix the springs and filling. Carpentry is easier to do, much easier than the classic upholstery with springs. Due to the fact that classical restoration is a complex process, and the result is not always pleasing. Antiquarians and museum staff will better and CORRECTLY evaluate the results of the work done with this chair. No offense, I have no purpose to offend the master, I personally do not like how the surface is prepared for varnish. I'm sure the surface should be smooth and even. And the furniture should look like new. (Shellac will not achieve this) For this reason, I am engaged only in the restoration of furniture and use only modern tools and materials in my work. Sincerely, your colleague and subscriber. PS I don't speak English.

Why are there so many holes all over the wood wherever you are? I dont see that situation here in the Western U.S.

Because it has been reupholstered very often. The other holes are from woodworms.

Now that I have seen the other videos in the contest... you are the winner ✌👍🎖!!! It doesn't matter you didn't have so much likes - it is YOUR work that is the most careful and the most respectful to the original manufacture and looks of this old chair. Had it any feelings, it would be quite pleased ☺. Anyway, I am, for sure. Once again: my compliments 👌!!

Most Biedermeier chairs have piping trim. The modern, plain upholstery fabric and machine-made nailhead trim takes away from the beauty of your wonderful restoration. Your skills are always improving. That upholstery job was a real challenge. I love to watch you.

Loved your upholstery and the inlay. Such detail, and traditional methods. However I vote for AT as he put more time into the structural strength of the chair. But wow. Loved your efforts

The chair is gorgeous. Great job of restoration. I once restored an antique chair, but I used a heavy foam cushion for the seat on top of a plywood support that I used for the base instead of webbing. It wasn't a kosher restoration, but it turned out beautifully and everyone admired it. I gave it to my daughter and her father-in-law claimed it for himself. He spent many a happy year sitting in that chair before he passed.
