The new electric Ford lightning failed miserably on the towing: Ford has been boasting about how with the larger chassis in the F-150 Lightning, it has that much more juice so you can really go out there and not have to worry about running the battery dry. Well, The Fast Lane Truck debunked that claim, at least when towing a trailer is involved. The Ford truck didn’t make it the 282 miles the onboard computer estimated, a figure which was adjusted to 160 miles once the driver provided the trailer specs. The plan was to go to a charging station 147 miles away, but as the batteries depleted more rapidly than expected, a destination 45 miles closer was chosen. However, the Lightning couldn’t even make it the 102 miles pulling the trailer, so the driver had to turn around and head back to a nearer charging station, arriving with 9 percent charge left. How about them batteries eh!!? Nothing but a shit show and a massive money grab. I prefer a fire breathing Power plant!! Thx! Just saying!!

I remember seeing that video. It was a very practical test and the EV failed it miserably. That doesn't even take in the consideration the range loss in harsh temperatures or the expensive battery being more prone to being replaced when in a collision. They want to push something that we don't even have a stable infrastructure for.

Don't blame the batteries. Blame the automaker for bad design. Ford rushed to be first. Didn't do their homework work on battery technology or low drag coefficient C design.

I love Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. The Camaro and Challenger are going away. Breaks my heart, but also makes me appreciate my GT that much more. We as a nation aren't ready to go full on EV. Ford confirmed that there are NO PLANS to discontinue the Mustang anytime soon. They have said it multiple times. From a business standpoint, if I was Ford, I would keep the Mustang going strong. With the Camaro and Challenger both going away, that would give me a monopoly, and that's a win. 😁

Their main moneymaker is the F-150, but I guess you missed the part where the Mustang was NEVER put out of production like the Camaro and Challenger were. They didn't say they will NEVER discontinue the V8s. They just said it won't happen in the near future. Who knows? Maybe you're right and they're lying. Time will tell. As for the Challenger, it's gone after 2023. The Barracuda isn't a Challenger, no matter how many hp it has. Breaks my heart to see Dodge do that to their loyal base. In any event, my V8 Mustang isn't going anywhere. It's a 2018 and fully paid off. It would be foolish to trade it in and get payments on something again. I plan to keep it until the wheels fall off.

You must have missed the part where I stated that Ford gets most of their sales from the F-150. I stated that right from the beginning. Also, I'm in my 60s and retired. My "choice" is to drive my V8 Mustang until it drops or I do. It has less than 20,000 miles on it, so it should be around for years to come. Again, for those looking for a V8 Muscle/Pony car, the Mustang will be the only choice as Dodge openly stated the Challenger is going away and Chevy said the same thing about the Camaro. Ford stated the V8 Mustang isn't going away anytime soon. Time will tell if they are telling the truth. If in decade from now I need another car, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

For me it sounds like this: At least for the very close future, full size 4-doors sedan discontinued. Doesn't mater which nameplate exactly be assigned to the new one. But here is a grey area: will RAM be still powered with same or evolved NA V8? Do they give up on the Pursuit vehicle for Police? Now, these "big guys" (CEO) , they do not say, whatever comes free, they say as per learned script. And if Tim tells that after 2023 will not be Charger and Challenger with HEMI, need to understand exactly this way, without any assumptions, and this leaves the option that will be Dodge cars with V8, just either cars with other nameplate, or some HEMI evolution that not is "HEMI". .... let's see, we already saw 1999 concept, and what came from it in 2005/6.

Dodge did this to themselves by not updating the platform before now. They chose to keep making more money off of the old platform and backed themselves into a corner. If they had updated the platform to prepare for modern updates they could have kept making a V8 and added the turbo V6 or hybrid models to meet EPA numbers.

I was curious and checked the used Hemi market after the Dodge reveal. Shocked is an understatement with the price on chargers and challengers with really high miles. $44k for a 2018 r/t Charger with 85k miles SMH.

You won't have a choice. They won't be available for sale, at least new ones. 25 countries have already banned new gas cars from being sold including Canada, China and most of Europe. Mercedes just eliminated every single V8 engine in it 2022 models for the US market. V8 engines can't pass the new fuel economy standards for the 2025 CAFE. The V8 will only be available in exotic and rare models like $100k Shelby Mustangs.

Hey RacerX I need your help on deciding on which vehicle to buy I’m stuck between the regular 2017 Challenger Hellcat and 2016 Chevrolet C7 Z51 3LT. The problem I’m having is the bad news that Dodge announce the Challenger is going to be a discontinued after 2023. Which sucks owning a vehicle that is discontinued from the factory or should I just buy the C7 and don’t have to worried about driving a vehicle not being discontinued from the factory. Not only that but few mods on the C7 Z51 3LT can be as fast or faster than the regular Hellcat. What you think is the best decision to make Mr. RacerX.

I’m very confused by Dodge’s apparent direct with its muscle cars. Every electricity coop that are holding their yearly conferences right are saying the same thing; “100% electric automobiles are impossible, we do not have the means to produce enough KWH.” A friend of mine in the industry told me that the current output would have to grow 100+% just to support 30-40% electrification of automobiles…. That’s not going to happen, especially with us shutting down coal fired power plants and try to replace their output with wind and solar. So again, Dodge is really confusing me with this whole “The future is electric” push, seems very naïve.

Looks like I'll be hanging onto my Challenger. That would explain all of the special edition models that will be released. Glad the hornet is already picking up a ton of pre-orders. Everybody condemning Dodge for releasing a compact would have driven the company to it's death decades ago if they were in charge. We are part of a niche market, and it is important to stay mindful of the fact that the vast majority of the world does not care about horsepower.

@@johnv6806 I believe there's no reason why Dodge should lie about such a thing. Their best selling vehicle has consistently been the Caravan-- something that car enthusiasts laugh at. I, myself even crack jokes on the caravan by talking about how the Durango is for the soccer mom that actually has somewhere to be. The world likes compacts, sedans with high fuel economy, and pickup trucks. Sports cars are a super niche market, always have been. So no, I don't see why Dodge would have any reason to lie about the preorder numbers. Let's say that Tim K. is full of shit though. The people who have a problem with the hornet, represent a tiny segment of car owners.

'23. doesn't the ordering for '23 start sometime in November? and carry on for several more months after that. I am glad that I got my Plum Crazy w/white stripes R/T Challenger in 2019. I have wanted one since 2008 and finally was able to get one in 2019. I was planning to upgrade to an SRT in a couple of years but I guess not any more. So I will be keeping it for a long time, and upgrading it. It is still like new with only 6500 miles in 3 years. As far as the new Charger, I don't hate it but not ready for electric yet. It is nice that they made it sound like a V8, but not sure it sounds right. It may be because it was recorded on a phone, but it just doesn't sound right. At idle it sounds like a muscle car. When it was revved up it sounded more like an Indy car. Not what I want my muscle car to sound like. I think they need to tweak the sound generator a little more.

I like the new car, it's a design and quality level Dodge hasn't ever been at...but I just don't see them not making hurricane powered mild hybrid cars. I get the Banshee is the Halo car and the future, but we aren't there yet...they need some bridge vehicles. They said no more big V8 Hemi's but I'd bet there are more internal combustion cars coming...they just don't want to poach sales of the current models...they want people to run out and buy them up.

love the content. i am a truck guy myself and dodge is my brand. i have a 5.7 not an rt ram 1500 and i would love a 6.4L 4x4 power wagon ram. but the trx is nice too if you want that type of vehicle.

Unfortunately in conjunction with the recession we’re currently in, I’m too young to afford a Challenger that isn’t a GT or R/T. I grew up at the most inconvenient time it seems. Maybe one day I can get a Hellcat in good condition but it’s not gonna be $50K cheap anymore after 2024 it seems

No, it's a matter of perspective. Your living in one of the most prosperous times in history. You have young teens making millions off social media and marketing, selling sneakers, etc. Maybe look into new ways of making money other than a job, you'd be surprised what you can accomplish with focus and persistence. Great video mate , That charger banshee shows ford what they should’ve done with the mustang Mach E. I will admit here that I’ve said if the Mach E running gear was in the GT body i would’ve got one. As the Mach E suv isn’t a ‘true’ mustang. But it was a necessary step to make hopefully the next gen mustang will have a full EV mustang GT in that classic shape. Thanks for sharing, Ross.

Very Good question. From what I gather dodge is building a very limited amount of cars through 23 and you have to lock in your order now to secure your car. I believe you will be able to customize it would be silly if you couldnt.

You don't need to get a scat pack. The 5.7 is awesome enough and they sound godly with a good exhaust.

I am actually upset, between my son and my self we have owned 3, 5.7 Challengers all fully loaded and 4 chargers all 392s 2 Daytonas 2 Scatpacks all fully loaded now the markups on sticker prices are outrageous and I’m not giving them another dollar ever it’s done over time to get in the Corvettes and the Mustangs they really shit the bed on this go around I was shocked at Doges new line up it is garbage 🗑 R.I.P.
