And I fell in love. The swooping lines, the friendly face, the elegant shape all just spoke to me. 17 years later the classic challenger is still my favourite American muscle car and I'll never get the chance to drive one. Hey bro, I almost bought the 09' SRT8 as well but after test driving a 6 speed manual 2012 ZL1, it was just the clear answer for me my bro. Nothing against challenger but ZL1 Camaro just looks more muscular and more engaging to drive. Again no offense. I'm a Mopar guy but my friend urged me to drive a ZL1 before settling on SRT8. I also test drove a hellcat, it felt a bit quicker in a straight line but it honestly felt too damn heavy on it's toes man. I just couldn't have fun with it under normal day to day driving whereas the Camaro just feels like a nimble giant. If that makes sense. The old Camaro just has a road presence that isn't matched. Either way, we both have muscle cars and for me, it's mopar or no car except ZL1

Someone, perhaps Doug DeMuro, wondered if the Challenger could become America's G-Wagen. Keep it in production for 40 years with the same body and only making minor engine updates as required by legislation. It would sell too.

I think the challenger was a great muscle car because it never tried to be a track star like the Camaro or Mustang. It was always about the sound, power, and road presence. It's a big lumbering powerful car and it fit its role perfectly.

The modern gen Challenger has been my dream car for as long as I can remember. Not because of the big power or any sort of status symbolism - I love it because it feels like a car that just wants to drive. Whether it's the PCH or Tail of the Dragon, Challengers just want to take you down every road the US has to offer.

I do love early muscle cars. They arent silly fast when compared to a lot of cars in its days but it gave a huge sensation of speed and made a great noise. I had a VW toureg with a V8 for towing and its made a crazy noise and squatted when you pull off even sightly vigorously. Throws you back in the seat like you are pulling huge G and you look down and you are barely vreaking 30. Certain measured in smiles per gallon. I'd get far more smiles than I would miles.

@@lumpofnicoal8381 sure you can make an electric Challenger, and depending the electric motor it has it could at least accelerate faster than the gas powered one. but a huge part of having a muscle car is being able to listen to the v8 engine roar. That's just something you can't replicate with an electric motor. Hell you probably can't even replicate with the Hurricane engine they mentioned toward the end of the video.

@@EldePHX Well it goes something like this. The less units you are able to sell the more you have to charge to make up shortfall for development and production costs. The more the price goes up the less accessible it is the less units you sell, till it becomes an exclusive club like say, Ferrari. If I had that kinda money I'd drop it on one of these cars in a heartbeat.
