Zendaya’s answers are always so intelligent and unique. Like I love how she said in multiple interviews that the characters are all different and complex/nuanced, both vulnerable and strong, make bad and good choices, and the most interesting/powerful characters are often morally grey which you need to question and discuss and sometimes there isn’t a right answer on anyone’s path/journey/arch.

I might be the only one who thinks this…as talented as the crew and director were on this film, it felt very engineered and contrived, and reliant on some kind of formula to be more of a blockbuster/commercial success. There’s nothing wrong with that…but I think a lot about how different choices could have made this film better. I love Zendaya…but she was not good in this. I think she, Amy and Rachel had much more to do with each other’s role in this and maybe even more of the marketing than this movie really needed (just felt like, “it’s not that deep.”) Hot take. I think she would benefit from acting workshops or a break from film and trying theater. That’s not me saying she is the worse actress ever. It’s incredibly practical and useful for actors to continue formal training while they’re working. She just hasn’t tapped into genuine emotion for me. It’d be great if everything she was in wasn’t some producer-cast role with some huge press tour. Press tours have gotten out of control.

The soundtrack and cinematography may be the only good thing to come out of this film. I'm pretty sure that the cast and the director on some level knew that by the end of the movie, it reigned more as a supremely stylish, offbeat, sensual Uniqlo ad.
