Thank you Claudia and Katie so much for all this tremendous work you've been doing to help people recover from this prison. I'm 2 weeks on TSM and already see how drastically my cravings got reduced. I've happily turned down the offer to go for a happy hour today - on Friday! Just because I was planning to go to gym. That would never happen in a million years before! My gym plans or anything else would go to hell immediately if there was some fun drinking offer. Just like you guys I've tried almost everything including 9 months in AA. Abstention made me feel extremely depressed and craving only started to get worse and worse. TSM is a true life changing and effective method. I'm also having a great support from my husband and feeling that 2nd life chance is already here. Free, happy, healthy life! So excited!! So grateful!! THANK YOU!!

Thank you all for doing this and TEDx for giving Claudia Christian a platform to spread the method (how I found it). Doing this on my own with no support. After decades, and many family generations having alcohol dependence. And thank you for being honest, and sharing your experiences. Talking about hiding it, and things that a lot of us have done in the past to keep a good buzz. Also Thanks for Embody Daily, found you on a Facebook group, trying to find answers and side effects of the Nal. The emotional part of this strikes home, and will be something down the road (only 5 days into TSM) as drinking was the answer to dealing with emotions and stress in the past. Keep it up GUYS!! This is greatly helping my relationship with my kids.

My wife watched One Little Pill with me and is very supportive of me trying TSM. I did 7 weeks of rehab in 2019 and AA meetings trigger me. I'm only on day 3 but the drug is working. As a former drug rep and hospital director-- do notice some things #1the drug lasts in your system anywhere from 4-13 hours. It is NOT a 24 hour pill. PLEASE follow Sinclair / Claudia / Katy's advice to take the pill an hour before you drink. If you took the pill before bed the night before and decide to drink at lunch the next day, you will have little or no protection. #2 even if you were lucky enough to find a doc to write this for you---follow TSM. Doctors are largely untrained and uneducated on the science here.

Thank you Claudia and Katie. Can I please ask, does the pleasure reduce for other activities during times when taking naltrexone (for example if doing an activity other than drinking, will this activity still be enjoyable)?
@shellycaldeira3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It’s important to only take it when drinking and not as a daily medication because yes it does block for example the great feeling when you exercise. In the very beginning it’s, if you are a daily drinker or dependent…. Yes take it daily. You will soon be drinking less and less and then will have days you won’t drink. Then that will switch to, only drinking on occasion. At least that’s what I am getting from people on the FB group.

I am using NAL again after trying it a few years ago...BUT.. without TSM rules. I used to take it in the morning to curb the craving. It was not the right way to take it. I know now that it does not have the same EXTINCTION effect.... . I learned my lesson....to follow the TSM rules to achieve EXTINCTION...gee.... if someone had told me 20 years ago that I would want Extinction I would have punched them in the nose....before I knew what AUD and Naltrexone WAS....Wow. I was so young then. I am older and wiser now. wow. Life is a real MR. TOADS WILD RIDE IN DISNEY WORLD.

My friend went from traumatized childhood to becoming a scrappy aggressive risk-taking teen... to a pregnant young lady with an abusive man... - Now, with a much better husband, yet has never experienced a fulfilling Adult life. (was Bored with everything and people after a rehab detox) Skinny, can hardly walk in her mid-forties. -She won't comply, actually hates the Idea of a pill that would make her want to quit drinking. You need a reason to quit, that is Bigger than the crutch of Drinking... and you will win!

I was told and prescribed naltrexone as a blocker of cravings and it seems to work. I am told to take it once a day at the same time every day but not necessarily strict but every day. now if I find myself in a place where it may be socially expected or whatever to have a drink, maybe a toast or something. should I still take one an hour in advance or will the 1 a day every day be effective. I take it at supper time every night, would it still be effective the next day if the toast was ,say at noon ? or whatever. I have intentions of not drinking at any regular frequency but the occasional drink would be nice in social settings. I take the 50mg daily around 5pm

For more specific information about the Sinclair Method protocol and naltrexone, please check out: riahealth.com/sinclair-method/. Since everyone is unique and naltrexone can be prescribed in different ways, you will need to speak with your doctor about specific dosing instructions and the best time to take the medication.

I really think the skills taught in “Smart Recovery” is perfect for people on TSM as it’s all about behavior therapy. It’s based on cognitive therapy.

Hi Katie and Claudia. I have a question which I hope one or both of you can answer. I am seriously thinking about trying Naltrexone to help me with my overconsumption of wine. It's gotten out of control. My question is, if this medication blocks the reward response that drinking alcohol gives, will it also block the dopimine response the listening to music, eating good food, exciting movies and other healthy things that give the same reward? This is what I'm worried about. Feeling apathetic toward healthy things which normally give the same pleasure neurotransmitter response. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
@Michael-tr7uq4 жыл бұрын
This is not usually a problem for TSMers. Taking naltrexone 1 hour before drinking is really targeting the drinking habit in the brain. It's not removing all pleasure of even the alcohol, just dampening the addictive buzz of alcohol, so that the brain can, over months, unlearn the habit (the importance) of alcohol. The idea is to get to AF alcohol-free days, when you are not taking the med, and you are enjoying the true joys of life (music etc.) without alcohol. These joys will get reinforced and the alcohol habit will get slowly erased from the noggin.

What about augmenting Naltrexone with Antabuse?
@rrusilowicz4 жыл бұрын
That would not be the Sinclair method. The whole point of the method is that you are reprogramming your mind in regards to enjoying the idea of drinking. So You must drink using this method. You take naltrexone one hour before drinking, then you drink. But the reprogramming is occurring that moment. But, reprogramming takes time. A long time. You have to really be committed to this method.
@rrusilowicz4 жыл бұрын
@Lawrence Tierney I don't really know if it needs commitment but I know from reading the subreddit on alcohol is medication that it does take a while to reach pharmacological Extinction
@KneelBeforeZod.2 жыл бұрын
You must NOT take Antabuse with the Sinclair Method.
@sofiemarbais3712 жыл бұрын
antabuse does Nothing for the alcoholic. And its completely contradictory to the sinclair method. All antabuse does, is make you feel like you are dying if you dare to have a drink. You know, just to make sure the cycle of guilt and shame is complete. It does not stop cravings, it does not help get alcohol out of your system, nothing, nothing but giving you a final blow of illness on top of what is already a debilitating disease. So in no way can it "augment" a medication that is very helpfull

What is the cost for something like this with Medicaid?
@RiaHealth4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Unfortunately Medicaid does not yet cover Ria Health's comprehensive program which uses the Sinclair Method (and other treatments for alcohol use disorder). You could speak with your doctor about the prescription!
@Michael-tr7uq4 жыл бұрын
Costs range from $1-$2 per pill depending on where you get the naltrexone. Costco is the cheapest I hear. $180 for a 90 pill supply could last you for months and months if you aren't drinking daily (w/e binger for example). Much cheaper than rehab ($40K). The method is free, tons of free on-line knowledge and support. Well worth it to help you squash the dependency on booze (plus you save big money on the alcohol).

Here's a big idea! Wouldn't the US productivity levels increase and the child neglect and abuse cases reduce if the Sinclair method was available to everyone through their government provided health care plan? Seems like a win-win. Less US govt spending on alcohol related problems in society that the government ends up paying for and trying to mitigate anyway But I guess that is too much common sense for the masses.
