Have cut up an old rollmat to make a comfy sit pad. The ground is almost always damp! Makes a massive difference to comfort when having that welcome cuppa. Also football socks make a cheap alternative to hiking socks.

Some great ideas, even if it is dry sitting on a stone can chill your bum. I've used the GAA socks myself way back, however, I wouldn't recommend them during on a multi-day or thru-hike

Hi Mike, a fellow Irish hiker here. I would add - don't be afraid to ask questions of other hikers, plan your hikes in advance, and know what to do if the worst happens. Have fun!

Wow...never knew there was an issue with banana skins or apple cores. Thank you for the video!

You're welcome Liz. Yeah, it is a bit of an issue particularly in busy hiking spots.

Great video for beginners! Did not know banana skins were such a problem! I've been using that as plant food for years so just assumed they would be ok and disintegrate after a few weeks... Thankfully I don't bring bananas on hikes myself, I hate it when they get squished 😅No one likes to find a gooey banana in their bag after a day's hike 😒
@MountainMikesAdventures3 жыл бұрын
Haha, no it wouldn't be my favourite thing to find 😅. Sure I use to do the same thing with apples when starting out until I learned about leave no trace. We are always learning.

Hydration, plenty of fluids, and sunscreen, even though its cloudy as anything over here, you can get burnt even after an hour, dead simple tips, but at the start i got both wrong!

Great tips! I’m hoping to be in Ireland for a few weeks in Sept, and wondering if there are any good used gear stores? I don’t want to haul a bunch of gear from the US. Thanks,

🤔 I can't think of anywhere to be honest but let me throw this up on my social media and I'll get back to you.

The only thing I can think of is Facebook Marketplace? But don't know of any physical used gear stores unfortunately

Sorry about your ankle man. Make sure you get Xcellent physical therapy and Rehab that injury. Before getting back on the trail

Thanks, yeah I've been going to physio and working on it. There's the temptation to try and get as soon as possible but I need to make sure I'm back to full fitness.

Nice!!! Some top tips based on some years of hiking!!! If i was to ever make a KZbin video of hiking in Ireland, I'd repeat everything you said for point 2 about clothing. One of the saddest stories I know is of someone I met who gave hiking a go. They spent €200 on a pair of boots.......... and only wore them ONCE!!! Hiking wasn't for them!!! Such a waste!!!!
@MountainMikesAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've also spoken to a couple of people with a very similar story. Such a waste.
