It may not be the moon, but I'm guessing you often reflect on being the first person to land an airplane in many of the places you share with us. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

you have the best flying videos on KZbin, which is to say, the best you can find anywhere. I love Colorado, such a wonderful place - certainly challenging with DA and high MSL landing locations - that's what makes your videos shine though - that and the terrain you land on, with no go around space. Really makes me want to go fly. Always dreamed of building a superSTOL airplane, too. Shoot I'd be so happy to go do patterns in a Zenith, so seeing the places you scope and visit blows my mind.

Yet another fantastic video Todd! I LOVE the whiteboard work explaining what you’re doing and your thought processes around it. You literally made me laugh out loud when you talked about someone telling you that you now have a license to learn how to fly. Somewhere around 100 years ago when I was 17 years old I was standing next to a 150 while an FAA check ride pilot was signing off On my brand new pilot’s license. He looked at me and said exactly the same thing. I so well remembering thinking “hey old man, I’ve been flying with my Uncles since I was seven years old. I just got finished training with the greatest instructor in the world, I got this!”. Boy, was he right and double OH BOY was I wrong! A WHOLE LOTTA learnin’ been goin’ on since then!

ha! I love it.... thats a great story. Very true words, and thankfully still being passed a long over the years. Big part of why I love aviation.... never feel like.. 'welp, I conquered that one, I know it all now.. boring, time to move on' ... not an issue in the flying world which is great!

Your videos definitely do their job of inspiring and I enjoy the whiteboard explanations. After passing my written a couple weeks ago I found a good CFI not far from me and am doing my best to fly twice a week. These fuel costs are no joke out here in California and the lessons have raised in price just the same, but it’s all gonna be so worth it. Another great video and great flying. Fly safe!

I feel for you in CA... right on though on the training. I know guys who would only take a lesson a month and it seemed the went backwards a little in between (2 steps forward, 1 step back)... so in the end, you may spend less money overall. I did mine like you. flew 1-2 times a week and got it done real fast.

STUNNING, just a joy to watch, always looking for a trackable landmark... That my senior years would include Google Earth and YT channels like this and ItchyBoots, Charly Sinewan, Bald and Bankrupt among many other, was beyond anything I could have dreamed of even two short decades ago. Corporate media COULD NOT DO what you and the afore mentioned channels do, no matter how hard they tried... You have something real special going here...

When you took off down hill with the tail wind, did you use mostly rudder to make the turn to the right? Would you also go over your dash board layout sometime, I would like to know more about the gauges we see in your videos over your shoulder. Thanks for another great video, I appreciate being able to come along with you.
@GravityKnightFlying

good question... i didnt in this case, had good flying speed and accelerating so just turned normal. the rudder only turn is an interesting tool... i know some use that technique... haven't played with it on this plane come to think of it.. tried it on my last plane some.

Good explanation, love to see these spots. Have you considered doing a video reviewing the S7? There are not many of those on YT. Could you address some of the comments that we sometimes hear about the Rans being poor build quality or "light duty" for back country. Any maintenance issue that you can encountered. Perhaps how it stacks up against the many cub types? Would be interested in your opinions and take away after having flown this one for a few years. Thanks for sharing.
@GravityKnightFlying

Doing a goods and bads video of the plane is not a bad idea at all. Will consider! I've had 2 RANS planes and they have both been good quality machines. The S7's are pretty tough airplanes. They lack some config wise for off airport from the factory (bush gear being a big one)... but they are well built. We can get into it deeper if I do a video.. thanks!

Just how many hours do you have flying that plane? I would think it took many hours to learn what it is capable of doing at Altitude and the wind. I'm sure you didn't just get your PPL and start landing at all these different LZ's. Great videos again

Nice video as always. What is your tire pressure and how does it affect your landings when tire pressure goes up with altitude. Can you feel the difference ?
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I aim for about 4.5 psi... pretty good all around. 4 if know a head of time heading to a rough spot. 5 isn't bad.. above 5 its pretty noticeable. It's the little sharp stuff that the suspension can't react to quickly enough.. low pressure absorbs that stuff a lot better. And at the same time, low pressure will also swallow up a rock much better too. High psi, it rides up and over the rock and that abrupt change is jarring. When you get down to it, the suspension takes the hit on landing, and smooths out rolling terrain, the tires smooth out the little sharp stuff, and they both work together to absorb rocks and such.

What state is this in? Definitely need to visit there. And is this all BLM land? Didn't mention anything about permission to land or anything like that. And thanks for the analysis. No matter where you fly it's good to go through the same thought processes and analyze the current situation, eg airplane performance, winds, density altitude, obstructions, etc, etc. Thanks for the hard work.

Is you max gross 1320 or is that just the LSA limit? I’d like to get one but the aft cg limit isn’t working out for me.
@GravityKnightFlying
@GravityKnightFlying Жыл бұрын
great Q... this one was registered as an LSA, so I just operate it at those limits. I talked to Randy (the designer) about what the gross really is... never quite got an exact answer lol... but it seemed like 1400-1450lbs would be a safe number. When you get up to 1320 it fees like it could use a little more wing (up high anyway)... so I don't push it too high.
