daveyl123 I agree unless its a twin otter, thats the exception cause that plane can pull off wut no other can
@dianaofburlington51726 жыл бұрын
Yes; I was thinking the same thing. A DC-3's landing gear has got to be the must rugged thing ever, for its time and even in comparison to many now. Airplane was designed for rough fields. Wheels only partially retract to be able to 'roll in' if they fail to deploy. Engines close together: airplane can fly whole mission on one engine with reasonable balance in the air. 190 knots cruise was un-heard-of back in 1933. Imagine what pilots thought when they first flew it!
@calvinnickel99954 жыл бұрын
You’ll never see a nose gear plane nose over. The Twin Otter, Quest Kodiak, and CH-701 are all tricycle gear airplanes that can do anything tail draggers can. Tail draggers are kind of like standard transmissions. They take the tiniest bit of skill to operate, their advantages have pretty much disappeared, they stroke the egos of those who operate them... but they will still humble both the inexperienced and experienced.
@eanayayo4 жыл бұрын
@@calvinnickel9995 they do if nose gear gets stuck in soil. Usually nose wheel is smaller then main so you'll never see tricycle "cesna"(or any other) landing on riverside or getting good results in STOL contests.

heh, that was my response after the belly landing in NYC by Captain Sully. All my religious friends were sending emails about the 'miracle' that no one was hurt and how Gawd was sending everyone a message. I pointed out the years of training and cool headedness of the captain and crew must have had nothing to do with it - decades of developing the aircraft, creating a traffic control system, a port authority, a cell phone network, an emergency response system, etc. obviously had nothing to do with it. Then I asked "But I know you'll say 'but God had a hand in all those things'. To which I'm going to ask, if God really wanted to save those people, wouldn't it have been a LOT easier just to move the goose 3 feet to the left or right?"

Nothing special. Par for the course in outback Australia where I live. We fly to get the morning milk and pick up the mail. We have no formal airstrip, just a dirt road to use. We have a Piper Cub, a vintage Feissler Storch and a Cessna Caravan for longer trips. The Cessna is jointly owned by the three adjoining cattle properties. We also have a Hughes helicopter for fence patrols. The Flying Doctor comes once a month to run a clinic and he lands on the Highway and we have a cleared area next to it for that. He comes in in an $8m King Air that is a mini ICU when needed. WE are fortunate that our government spares no expense for remote area health.

I think the main reason for the 'Thank God' comments made by the people in the video is that they're receiving stuff that they need on the airplane. Many Alaskans live in very remote areas in which a weekly or monthly arrival of supplies is a crucial event. 'Thank God!' could just as easily be for the canned goods, toilet paper and pharmceuticals as it could be for seeing no one cracked up due to terrain, weather, or airplane problems. Look at the field itself - definitely not my first choice of favorite landing areas. That said, the guy yelling beside the camera at people standing too close to the runway whom no one bothered to remind till almost too late ought to have kept his mouth shut. The people do give the distinct impression that remote Alaskans are a little crude; and, no; I wouldn't want to have a vacation with them either! BTW traditionally pilots don't pray in the cockpit. They have more vital things to do at the time. But you'd better believe that those of faith pray beforehand though - and after!
