Very impressed with your buddy's work. Not just the painting, but his whole process to get there. He is definitely presenting a large middle finger to what people think, or expect you to do en plain air. And he's making it all work so well. The fact that his "palette" seems to be another canvas with the plastic on it, that's just laying flat on the ground, and that he has to walk several steps away from his painting to reach it. If you couldn't see his painting, and just saw this guy with his stuff laying all over the side of the road, you'd think he'd lost his mind. That's the guy I want to go painting with.

Both of your paintings were so different! Always fun to see how artists view what's in front of them. I love your painting, Michael, because those trees you painted look like they're moving. Such energy! Nicholas' painting was definitely vibrant for sure. He has a unique style.

Wonderful piece Michael. Love that location, if not for the road right there. Seems like the two of you were ok working there in spite of the occasional traffic. I think the colours in your piece work well. The brighter greens work well with the transparent purple (Dioxazine or Ultramarine/Alizarin mix?). Also, love the little shots of orange that you added. And of course, the little peeks of white water between the trees. Beautiful. Thanks for the reference to Arthur Matthews. Hadn't been exposed enough to his work.
