Hey Bob, could you let us know what would happen if you use this same wire with Chameleons 25' whip. Would the length of wire need to be changed? Would performance increase? So many things a new video could answer ;) Thanks Bob for all your great videos, I'll stay tuned!

@@HOAHamRadio Hey Bob, is that to mean in your opinion the TDL is a better antenna than this particular setup? I have the Mini and the TDL but was wondering if this offered better or different characteristics. Just wondering, thanks for any insight!
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 3 ай бұрын
@@joshuabuehrer Each antenna has its benefit; my comment to Ammed was because he is a HUGE TDL fan. I can say if I had no restrictions, the TDL would be my choice, elevated minimum 4 feet. The benefit of the LZ Sloper is it is such a small piece of gear that can travel with the MPAS Lite, which is great and sufficient on 20 meters. If you wanted to get some expanded bandwidth, add the LZ Sloper.

If you do this with the WRC you will need to treat the wire like a resonant antenna...i.e., you will need to wrap or unwrap to get a length to match your target frequency. It is worth a try for sure!

Hello! Many thanks par the presentation. Very clever add-on to impove performance on 80 / 60 and 40m. Could help a lot for a boat while in the harbour. 73, Alex, HB9CKR/M (on the inland waterways)

I see the makings for a inverted L feedline on the porta mast radiator running to the whip.. so many options with the flag pole wonder how they would work.. :)
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio Ай бұрын
The Porta Mast continuity breaks at each section; so it isn't a radiator...I have pondered what to do about that so many times.

Agreed, another great one. I might have missed it in this video, but did you deploy a counterpoise?
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 26 күн бұрын
Counterpoise is raised off the ground and tuned to band / frequency. Ground radials are much more forgiving...I use ground radials. With Chameleon verticals kits they come with a single 25' ground radial which I have used with success. Out of habit and experience I use a set of three 16 1/2 foot ground radials 40 meters and up.

So one end of the wire is connected to SS17 and other end sloped and into a ground stake? Is the latter end of wire held down with an insulator?
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 2 ай бұрын
I did not use an isolator, but that would be preferred of course; it could only improve performance over what I demonstrated.

my issue isnt HOA.. my issue is SPACE! i want to run an HF antenna but dont have the area to run it.. i was looking at an F-loop but they are only limited to 25 watts do you know of anything that might fit in the footprint of an F-loop but might be able to handle around 100w?
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 2 ай бұрын
Do you have room to put up a vertical antenna; like a 17' whip? And approx 32 feet in diameter to lay down some 16 1/2 radials. Or are you strictly in the F-Loop footprint? Is your available space in a yard, porch, deck, and how much space is it?

Ok, I get the challenge. Alpha Antenna is the only company I'm aware that makes a 100 watt mag loop...I'm not a Alpha Antenna fan. It is my opinion their quality is substandard for what they charge. Doesn't mean it won't work. Ciro Mazzoni is another company, but HUGE dollars to purchase. Maybe keep your eyes open on eBay for something used. 20 watts is sufficient for HF communication BTW, so you can, in my opinion, consider the CHA F-Loop.
