For cutting thru plastics. Use a box cutter. Heat up the blade w a small torch. When hot score the cut once a few inches. Reheat etc. u will find the sweet spot where it stops cutting thru. To reheat it. Once plastic is removed. Lightly quickly fan w light flame to change plastic discoloration to look more natural. Makes very clean cuts. ✌️

I LOVE Scanner Master! I've bought several things from them, including a Uniden BCD436HP handheld scanner. When I bought that scanner, I also paid for a carrying case, and they sent me a case for an SDS100. After emailing them, not only did they apologize and admit they messed up, but they sent me the proper case and even a return label. I'd recommend them to anyone!

I use the Wolf River Sporty Forty Coil on their 17.5’ whip. I have a jumper wire that I connect to bypass the coil for 20-10meters. Their coil is robust as well as their whip and more cost effective than this. Looks like a direct copy of theirs. It might be more robust than Wolf River’s. Looks like it is well made.

I too have the Wolf River Coil; I'm a huge WRC fan and have their full size as well as the mini coil. The CHA M-Coil is significantly smaller and precision machined metal. The Sporty 40 is larger and made from home construction grade PVC. They both get give us the ability to convert a 20 meter whip to 40. Its great to have options so we can choose one if we prefer it, or both if we can afford it.

Yes, I noticed this in their user guides, which are always filled with very helpful information. Manufacturers provide guidelines which hold true in the highest % of deployments. Ground radials are the same; number and lengths are recommendations for each operator to perfect in the actual set up. Shows even with some variation excellent results will be achieved.

Why didn’t you bother to compare it to the Sporty Forty, which you had previously reviewed/highly praised (and which I think you had prepared that jumper for)?
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 4 күн бұрын
@matthewtrail2538, first, I only demonstrate or review products on my channel that I consider worthy of my time and money, regardless if I purchased the item or it was provided without charge for my review. Over time, people will either respect my opinion or they won't, based on my body of work and contribution to the hobby; I am not trying to convince anyone, they will reach their own conclusion regardless of what I say. Both the M-Coil and the Sporty Forty are worthy of my time and money. If they were not, I would not waste my own time on the two videos, let alone your time. Second, when I review a product brand, I do not generally compare it to competitive brands as each brand has to stand on its own. There has to be a value proposition to own it independent of comparison to other brands. Third, as both Amateur Radio and KZbin are my hobbies, which I desire to enjoy, I have no interest in drama. Everyone has their favorite brands and preferences. Some want lower cost gear and accept lesser materials / performance. Some want premium materials / performance and smaller form factor and are willing to pay the higher price based on higher cost. Comparing these just creates drama. I have enough drama in my daily 50 hour a week fulltime job, I’m certainly not going to invite it onto my channel which is for enjoyment and education. If someone wants to fight, they will need to go to another channel. Rarely have I commented in the past when people want to pick a fight over the irrelevant, and over time I have simply resorted to ignoring or deleting comments. Both the CHA M-Coil and Sporty Forty have a value proposition. They both can stand on their own and are worth the price they are sold for. Both push RF to 40 meters using a 17’ whip; one does it at lower cost with hardware store home plumbing PVC, one does it at a higher cost with precision machined aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel. I have informed viewers on both, with independent reviews - it is their choice to make. If I were forced to make a single choice, which in my mind I certainly have a preference, the result would be drama. Back to point 3.

Thanks for the video. When the weather breaks here I want to do something similar. If you could give me your opinion on this setup I'd appreciate it. I want to use your same setup but use the SS25 in place of the SS17 and use the LZ 60' slope wire clipped to the top of the SS25. Do you think this setup will work 80 meters ?
@HOAHamRadio
@HOAHamRadio 4 күн бұрын
A few thoughts: First, Chameleon doesn't provide any information on using the LZ Sloper (60') with the SS25; I suspect this is due to strain it would put on the SS25. So if you are going to do this, you would likely need to guy the SS25 to minimize strain. Second, the M-Coil, SS25, and LZ Sloper combined length don't give you a resonant length on 80, so this isn't going to work. Third, as an alternate, you could try adding the CHA Hyrbrid Micro between the ground spike and M-Coil, then guyed SS25, the LZ Sloper and use a tuner to tune up. Not sure how well it would work, but it would certainly be the best config with the components listed. This is my educated guess.
@jamesrospopo3137
@jamesrospopo3137 4 күн бұрын
@@HOAHamRadio Thanks Bob. I hadn't ran the numbers yet to see if it would be resonant. Also I'm unsure of the magic in the M-Coil. I think I'll just wait until the Mad Dog coil comes back into stock and see about going that route. That's for 80 Meters. I'm still going to give your demonstration a try on the other bands.

You said you tested all the radios on high power, but in the video that’s not true. The two black radios were on low power. I bring this up because in my testing of 5 TD-H3 radios, they all failed on low power, all failing to achieve -16.02dBm on the second harmonic, and only 1 of them failing to reach -40dB from the primary. However, 4 of the 5 readily passed when transmitting in high power for harmonics 2, 3, and 4 (I didn’t test beyond 4). The one that failed in high power had -49.6db in the third harmonic (which is a pass for part of the rule), but failed with -14.3dBm in the third harmonic. All other second, third, and forth harmonics for all 5 radios were at least -17.4dBm and as low as -36.4Bm in high power mode, and all harmonics for all radios were at least -40db from the primary. That being said, there were a couple of radios I returned that either slightly failed the spurious emissions test on high power, or had a quality issue (one had a sloppy on/off switch that didn’t have a well defined detent). So, I am quite happy with the radios, and I doubt that any of them will cause interference on low power and the one with the failed high power test is only slightly out of spec., presuming the error of my non-laboratory grade equipment is not to blame.

Ounces matter! Millgrams too :) I've backpacked several thousand miles over my lifetime....I fully understand the weight to return ratio. Can't wait until you give the stamp of approval to the Gabil 7350. Personally I'm happy with just one base+whip that is resonant at 20m (and/or an End Fedz that is resonant at 20m) to avoid having to puzzle out/carry a tuner. Same could be said for 40m. I feel either can get you help or allow you to access the bigger picture in a collapse situation. In fact I'd sacrifice quite a bit of HF kit to gain the ability to also have a 2m/70cm handheld along too. UHF/VHF for the local and semi-regional and HF of course to see how fast the zombie hoard is moving across a couple of states away from me. I think you like the Icom ID52A (maybe I'm remembering wrong); for me it is the humble FT 3D (nothing D-star related anywhere near me).

Hey Bob, great review. After buying one of these, I found a few things mine does that yours apparently didn't. Writing to the radio injects new, and random, errors every time. Channels will be in new zones, settings will change, CTCSS might be different...data gets corrupted somewhere in the transfer if you touch the cable, make noise, are sitting in a running vehicle. Best part is random location data transmitting, even when it's disabled. Spamming everyone with your location and callsign is a neat way of getting your name out there. I guess it's like FT8 in that regard. Pros: Radio does neat stuff I've never seen before, and helps you make pen-pals on the internet. Also spams people in DMR mode, which I haven't seen other bands offer yet. Cons: Little expensive for a Baofeng with a random-number generator built-in to the VFO
