No it never actually happened That name was given to him by Shinda himself…he asked him to sing a song during one of his Akhadas…as a return favour since Amar Singh had been writing his songs. This movie has been loosely based on Chamkila’s life…don’t take it too seriously even the disclaimer says so in the beginning that it’s pure work of fiction & adequate cinematic liberty has been taken.

In the UK with the film Matilda (the musical) they brought it exclusively to cinemas but after a few months released it onto Netflix, everywhere but the UK. We had to wait a few months extra before it came onto Netflix UK. They could release the Chamkila film in theatres across India and then give exclusive Netflix broadcast to Rest of the World, delaying India for around 6 months. They'll still make plenty of money.

While reading comments I found dome people might his lyrics funny. It is true that Chamkila's lyrics were too dirty but his compositions and music sense was god tier, they are still being used today. Tumbi was popularised by him. The cultural impact he left at the age of 27 was immense. I was born long after he was gone but songs are still popular and every kid in punjab knows them. Personally I love his songs, they are not pretentious like other songs of the time which only talked of love through sun, moon and rose etc. metaphors. They were raw and full of sexual desires, what everyone thinks but afraid to admit.

It should have been said in the movie in some way that both singing and listening to these songs containg lyrics representing raw/graphic sexual desires is bad.
