Thanks! I rode up the gondola to Montenvers with the guy who measures the glacier at the Vallee Blanche for the official records. He told us that the glacier was actually growing in the 70s to mid 80s.

It's not uncommon for glaciers to grow in the short term due to global warming, as it typically leads to increased precipitation, which for a while at least can out strip the increased melt. Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers in new Zealand were the same until about 10-15 years ago
