@@gilesharrod5166 mid October last year I was paddle boarding in mountain lakes at over 2000m! Huge contrast to this year. But that is the nature of spring/autumn.

@@simonorr594 I wouldn't say cold, just wet. Compared to the last 2 autumn's it feels cold, but they were exceptionally warm and sunny. This year is pretty average so far. Precipitation in autumn is always going to give snow in the high mountains

What was your itinerary for this day? Where did you descend and where did you end up?

i started from the aiguille du midi (skiing out of the gate!) and crossed the vallee blanche to the torino hut/skyway, then came back across on the panoramic lift to the aiguille du midi

Nice..but a bit sketchy. Did you see any other skiers you could pal up with? What do you carryin case a crevasse gets you?

@@markthomasson5077 I was following the tracks of a team of 5, at various points they were within shouting distance. And there were lots of climbing rope teams near the midi and Torino. I am wearing a harness etc. If I went in a crevasse abs nobody saw then I would have to call for a rescue

Do you have to hike a lot to get to snow in the summer?

like everything, the answer is "it depends..." the snow line is going to be much lower in june than september, although by september you can get fresh snow transiently down to valley level. And it depends where you are starting from. at the top of the aiguille du midi you are in the snow all year round!
