My 42 year old father was killed instantly when a drunk cont ( over 3 times over the limit ) driving a Range Rover slammed into the back of my Dad's car at over 100mph on the M4. He ran away from the scene too, and tried every trick in the book to avoid prosecution. He eventually after nearly 2 years was found guilty and was given 2 years..................that was in 1986 when VERY FEW prosecutions for Death By Reckless Driving ever got to court. He never gave a toss about killing my Dad, and cared even less about the effect it had on my Mum. My Mum has been gripped by grief ever since, she has never got over it, as they were soul mates - and my life was tainted too ( but not destroyed as I refused to let it) as I have had to support her all these years. It has been very very dark at times, and I am surprised she has never taken her own life in depression & despair.

This is also called vehicular manslaughter and carries a maximum sentence of life (15 years). I suspect he pleaded guilty after the first hearing which reduced the sentence by 1/5... but he'll probably get out after serving 2/3 (8 years). You're right it's not enough, but if he did get a life sentence it never ends and he'll go back if he does anything remotely similar again, even driving whilst disqualified. Of course his real sentence is that he's got to live with it for the rest of his life... sadly so have the girl's family.

They have money, lack brains and lack sense. Spending on lavish dinners then get a cab to take you home. A grown man not a kid to act so rashly. It also shows what money can make you look like - a looser and a coward. Hope justice will be shown to the family.
