Ah yes those where the days..sure do miss them but sure hell don't miss the politcs that were in CART. Boy oh Boy that was a racing series! Many thanks for sharing!

30 cars in the race?!!! Man those times were great. And I do agree with you Maloyo...it does get ya a lil down.

1994 and 1995 were arguably the best years for CART. Rivaled even F1 at the time. Tony George killed it, and the IRL has never measured up since. Whats left of this series is now but a pathetic shadow of its former self...

Agree, on all points, although I would include 1993

This was great, thanks so much for posting it. I've been watching old CART video in this website and while it is wonderful, it also makes me very sad. CART had it all and it was wonderful! I do miss it. Thanks so much Tony George for saving American formula car racing. Mary

30 Cars on the grid at Road America in 1994, 25 was nice at Homestead, but 30 would be better. Or even better, a field of 33 at every event!

A defining moment for Jacques Villeneuve. Too bad his career tanked with the BAR fiasco. Also the CART championship was amazing to follow. Too bad that was messed up with whole indy 500 story.

I was 9 when this happened, and I remember to this race like it's now running... Very good to see it again! Maybe these where best years (1993-95) for IndyCar and CART. It's sad, that Villneuve now in F1 is doing not that good job...

Agreed. If we had Versus coverage,effort, and money on ESPN/ABC us open wheel fans would be in heaven. I also believe that turbos need to be back which Indycar said they will be but personally it's taking too long maybe too late. I know the pain of being an American open wheel fan and though we have our differences 90% of everything else is pretty much the same. My buds and I talk about it all the time so it's nothing new. Just try to stay positive if possible if not just cheer on Graham...:P

Yeah, it is real bummer that they couldn't work it out. I heard that RA wanted a multi-year deal but Indy wasn't interested. It's a shame, the Indy Car races at RA were awesome. The crowds were huge!

First time I saw CART (then Champ Car) at RA was in 95. Saw about 8 CART/Champ car races up there. Killer. 900 hp or so. If this so called Indy Car make their cars like this as far as performance, speed etc, I might be interested.

that would be cool! do the indy cars also go to watkins glenn? i saw grand-am 6 hour race today. that track is awesome!

IndyCar stopped going to The Glen in 2009 I think? Or 2010, maybe. They ran The Boot like the 6 Hours of The Glen, and that was a good race too. The Glen is personally, my favorite road course in the world, and this a close second. ;)

Road America will be back on the schedule next year. Just one more comment though, there really shouldn't be an argument on which series is the lesser of 2 evils, because, if u are like me, u become a fan of the team, not the series. I more of an open wheel fan, but I do watch nascar and Grand Am because of one team, Chip Ganassi Racing.

Same here though I started watching CART during Bobby's twilight years. I believe Graham will continue to impress as the season goes on but I believe next year he'll truly compete for a championship. Graham thus far has been a victim of bad luck and hopefully this well end. Graham's name has often been linked to the USGPE seat but I hope he isn't offered the seat and even if he is offered I hope he doesn't take it. Indycar needs Graham not F1. Jon Summerton 4 USGPE.

I'm pretty sure the Andrett's took a loss last year and broke even this year at the Milwaukee Mile. They're sticking with it and it looks like they could make some money next year. You've got to give them credit, they put a lot of money into Milwaukee.
@spectre120916 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but I have always loved the Andrettis, and Newman Haas when they had Michael, Mario, and Nigel. But I am also a fan of competitive racing, so when everyone went to IRL it was boring to see Bourdais' dominance.

But I know what you mean and like you its hard for me to watch American open wheel be in its present status. The split did kill the series (even though it wasn't the only thing) and now we have Tony George who can't seem to get anything straight. I do have faith that American open wheel will rise again. It may never be what it was but it'll be there and irrelevant. Now if ABC/ESPN can give some support for the series like Versus does we might have something. Everyone is under the toe of NASCAR

The IRL will soon be racing at road america as they will add more road/street tracks to the schedule. Think about it, next year the IRL will use paddle shifters and supposedly in 2009 will take 10 inches from the wheelbase. Do these sound like the actions of a series commited to ovals.
@fordfocusonme16 жыл бұрын
It well don't worry about it. I know the areo package and engine package are not there but the talent is I believe. Rahal, Marco, Viso, and even Briscoe. Sure its not Micheal, Mansell, Emmo, Tracy, and Jaques but to set the standards so high is unrealistic and makes Indycar's future doomed to fail even before it began.

The all oval IRL sure was killing it. NOT. The problems now are: 1.) Nobody knows when and where they are racing on TV, so ratings suck. 2.) Ratings suck = low sponsorship money 3.) Inability to retain teams/drivers, so no fan famililarity with drivers/reams. Solutions: Buy network time, get drivers in commercials for their sponsors, more races, stop the wing nonsense, need a marketing plan that involves the whole season.
@fordfocusonme15 жыл бұрын
Stop your whining your sissy. You have beef with today's unified series then let Tony George know whining doesn't do anything. As American open wheel fans (which I've been since '93) we must state our opinions but to those who can do something. I'm sick and tired of whiners and whiners are partially what killed American open wheel in the first place. People who looked on the past and didn't support neither series during the split and killed itself from the inside out.
