I AM CURRENTLY using the exact same generator, during this small winter storm in Texas, in my area it is very normal for the electricity to go off but with this generator it maintains 3 televisions, a PC, a pipe heater, among other small things like lamps , telephones and it stays in energy saving mode, it is very cool, it has been stored for more than a year since I acquired it.-

I just got one of these - model number change (200961), but still dual fuel 2500 watt. Followed all the directions, Runs extremely quiet - *very impressive.* The primary purpose of this generator will be to power a gas furnace, TV's, a few lights, and internet routers - in a 3,800 sq ft. home,. After the *2021Texas February Freezout* I decided never again. We have a large see through nat gas fireplace, so we didn't have to burn the furniture to keep from freezing. But even at that, temp's got into the low 40's inside! and -3F outside. Ran 8 to 12 hours with *NO ELECTRICITY* over 4 days of it, with maybe an hour here and there with power. Today, I did the test after a lot of research. Fortunately that paid off, because this, as probably the majority of portable generators, use a "floating neutral" as opposed to 'bonded neutral'. The startup sequence of the furnace does not like, nor will it run the furnace on floating neutral nor on 'dirty power'. Made a plug for one of the outlets by jumpering the neutral and ground wire together. Now, it runs perfectly as a bonded neutral generator. I am literally amazed this small generator ran the gas furnace and it did it in the ECO Mode. It didn't even have to ramp up to get the blower fan running. Ran it through several cycles without a single problem. Will be completing the wiring with a single transfer switch. *Great Shout out to this little wonder machine!*

Awesome test, Gavin. Mine arrived last night and I couldn't resist running it. These load numbers you found are quite helpful to me. Its a very nicely designed unit and lighter and smaller than another 2000 watt inverter generator that I had. Keep up the good work!

Wish I had known about this before I purchased my Predator 2000. Not that there’s anything wrong with it but the overload light will start flashing with the RV AC and trips immediately when I power on the Keurig (without the AC running of course) I think this little guys extra 250watts running and 500 starting watts is just what I’d need to power both individually without an issue. I have a Champion 4650 that’ll do both, even simultaneously if I wanted, but lugging around 40-50lbs is a lot easier on the back than 100+ lbs.

I bought the 2000w champion dual fuel bnib from a liquidation store (no warranty) it has 24 hours. Changed oil about 3 times in first hour then ran for about 5 and changed again. Lots of metal every time. Ran it for 15 and oil was very dark for propane and decompression system wasn't working anymore, and it burns oil. Exhaust valve had extreme amount of clearance. I put the carb, spacer, and all the hoses on my generac gp2200i and it bolted right on (both mz80 clones from different manufacturers) gasoline inlet tubes different diameters on the carbs however. I intend to run it on propane instead because I think the champion engine may be a turd. It has 19 hours and none of the same problems. I'm doing a test run right now to see if it burns the same amount of propane with the different rpm mapping, and to see if oil is dark again. The champion burned about 0.77lbs/hr with steady load of 750w

@@GeneratorReviews it was definately new, but yeah you are correct. Who knows maybe it was from a bad batch someone pilfered or something. I just checked on the generac, 1.05 lbs per hour at 750 watts. That sucks. Scale I weighed the tank with has no decimals so maybe that is skewing my numbers. Burned 6 lbs in 5.7 hours. My previous calculation was because propane guy put 12lbs in after I ran it. I never thought to use the industrial scale at my work so that could be off too

Good afternoon! Thank you very much for this most informative demo of the Champion 2500! This is awesome! I have a travel trailer arriving in a few weeks. I will mostly be boondocking with it for at least the next 5 years. After that, I hope to retire and start doing 1-2 month trips; which I suspect will be more in campgrounds. I will install a robust solar setup on my rig. So, am looking to get a suitcase inverter generator in the event it is cloudy or we are in the trees. This is a really tough decision. There are, of course, the very proven Honda’s. With reliability and name comes a distinct price height. And then comes a few of these different models that probably do just about as good as the Honda. In our case, the generator would only be a back up. And, occasionally, it would be called on to run the a/c. I will put a soft start on the a/c to reduce its power draw. I like this champion! And it has an extra 100 or 200 continuous watts as compared to some of the other choices. I know a 3000+ watt gen would better do the job. But, I REALLY want to keep the gen weights to the 50ish lbs level. And, if I needed to, could get a second lighter generator to supplement (another good reason for a Honda off-shoot model). Safe travels

Champion makes a 2000/1700 version of this, also dual fuel with the propane rated at 1530 running. My guess is that this (2000/1700) generator probably is pretty much a near clone that simply doesn't rev as high as the 2500 - if so, it would probably be a bit quieter and a bit more fuel efficient? Any thoughts on this assumption?

You don't say how long you plan on running the generator per day? I put a heavy load on my Champion 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator with gas and it ran for close to 5 hours. So if the generator will run close to 34 hours on 20 lb propane@ 25 per sent load you should get about 25 hours on one tank? Just guessing. That would take 5 20 pound tanks. Only if you get them refilled, the ones you get exchanged for they are not filled up all the way to allow for expansion!

@@GeneratorReviews Thank you for your quick response. I have been looking at the Champion 3400 dual fuel. I was trying to save a few dollars so that is why I was a bit confused from all the videos I watched. Yours made so much sense and direct to the point. I'm glad I contacted you and you responded. Cheers!

@@backroadsxplorer572 No problem happy to help. When it comes to generators it’s always better to have a little extra power left over.

Awesome video, great load testing, thank you! I had a question about this generator, it says not to use more than 10%ethanol gas. Im starting to see 15%ethanol gas available, is there an addiditve to remove ethanol?

I haven’t heard of any additives that can but I could be wrong

Check out your area, they sell non alcohol gas at different gas stations! You should also get a fuel stabilizer like Stable for the gas it will prevent the gas from gumming up the carb and will make fuel last for up to 2 years.

You did some great testing.. any idea what fuel consumption is @100% ?

Would probably get about 5 hours running on gas and 15 hours on a 20 pound propane bottle

Thank you for the information you gave me to look for this generator at wal mart. I have order one already this same day. I thought i would never find one in black. All yellow is to revealing for all to notice and black is not as noticeable to see for most people who might want to steal it.

Hi Gavin! Love your channel. I'm trying to decide between this model (200961) and the new Wen DF250i. A comparison or any other feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the great work.

You can’t go wrong with either one but the Champion has the quick connect which makes it really easy when running on propane. I will see if I can put a test together comparing those two.

Hello I have a question about using gas or the propane part of the generator can I use only the propane part of it and when I do want to use the gas part of it do I have to let it run dry so that way there is no way of corrosion inside the tank and by using only the propane will that mess up the generator and anyway and how to store it also have you had any problems with that yet
@GeneratorReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard You can run it on propane only then store it with zero extra work. When you start using gasoline you will have to run the carburetor dry and drain the tank before storage
