Witness the utter desolation of 3" and smaller fresh pine branches. This isn't your Grandpa's chipper. It's your dads chipper.
Review and use of this fine piece of manufacturing. A beast of a small machine, with ridiculously tiny wheels.

Nice chips! Long gloves and sticking your hand in the chute will not make good chips. As others have said, it does not take much to catch your gloves on a stick that suddenly self feeds as you are pushing it into the chute....For your cardboard, if you wet it before you apply the chips, it will flatten to the contours of the ground providing better coverage and your chips will spread more evenly. Be safe

I've used both large commercial chippers and small garden units & I swear that at some point your glove WILL catch on a branch. If you continue the bad habit of putting your hand inside the chute you won't be able to react in time. If you're lucky your glove will be pulled off --- if not -- well the price of failure could be huge. Otherwise nice video -- good luck.

This video gave me anxiety watching you stick your arm/hand down in the chipper... can you find another method a such as a 2×4 with plywood square on the end to jam the branches in. Thanks cheers! Also makes me a bit nervous seeing the kids around it as well
@felixandforest
@felixandforest 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, as you can see in the video, I do not turn the chipper on anywhere near my kids, they have a strict boundary and are not allowed within a significant distance of the machine while it is on. This chipper is designed for your arm to go down in the chute, there is a safety flap that is which is the safe stopping point. I identify it in the video. It is quite safe to use in this manner. When you get one, I invite you to use it how you like. Thank you!

Thank you for your great review. Helpful comments and video. A few questions, to help further: (1) Have you found either the chipper or shredder get clogged up (especially with wet or green cuttings/leaves)? (2) How are the chipper blades and shredder hammers enduring? (3) Does it look like a big job to sharper or replace the blades and hammers? (4) What is the brand name of your excellent 17 cu' dump wagon, and where can one be purchased? Big thanks for all of this!
@felixandforest
@felixandforest 3 жыл бұрын
Hello! (1) The chipper is hard to clog, the shredder though, can get clogged very easily mainly with thin wiry green branches longer than 12" or so. (2) I can't say for sure, I will have to see how it cuts after a few years of use. It doesn't look too hard to take apart and sharpen though. No comment really. (3) Just a lot of bolts and nuts to take off. Time and patience! Does not appear to be a super easy job though, unfortunately. (4) Agri-Fab 17 Cu. ft. dump cart. Freakin rocks!

Great review ! Thanks ! Just for the record...you should never use softwood mulch in your garden. Softwoods tend to absorb available nutrients as they break down and actually deprive your garden of those nutrients. I learned that the hard way and just thought I'd save you the lesson..... : )

@TortureBot

This one he has is over 100cc bigger than a 224cc a guy from Russia?? maybe? uses here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raPLi3mVfJiBbKM , and he shows his 224cc 3" Champion ANNIHILATING some bamboo. Given it did look like the bamboo was already kind of dried out, but bamboo is not as dense as most wood. It's basically hollow depending on the particular type, and this chipper will eat it like pretzels. Be careful though, I've heard of certain species going into overdrive if you chip and leave the debris all over the ground. I'd read up on that if you don't want your bamboo to multiply.

Home Depot wants 945.14 after so about just under a thousand bucks. I saw ya struggling there for a minute. Don’t put your hands in there it’s supposed to eat it up. What store did you go to to get it cheaper ? I was just wanting to shred my piles of sticks I pulled out from old landscaping. I tried breaking them up and putting them in yard bags but they would just get heavy and rip the bag poke out of the bag. Old tree branches. I tried looking at $200 stand up ones but people give bad ratings on those flimsy ones. I don’t have a job so whatever I spend I can’t replace.

G'day! Wearing sandals when performing yard work is a bad idea! Increased chances of tripping over something, and you don’t want to put yourself at risk when working with tools and heavy machinery. Think about the damages a lawnmower, weed whacker or shovel can do to your feet and toes. Your toes aren’t any tougher than your hands, and most don’t think gloves, and loose clothing are a good idea, when operating machinery. By the way... I’ve Never understood someone, who will risk loosing digits permanently for the temporary comfort of cheesy footwear. Any shop work, yard work, auto work, house work requires proper footwear. Or not, it’s a very sad loss, when they bust the upper metacarpal bones in their feet. Lol! Cheers! :)

Rather than shoving you hand into the hopper find a stick that you can cut up and shape to use, I like to use one with a V shape at the end. I use the stick in place of my hand and arm. I never stick my had into the hopper. especially with gloves on your at rick to have your hand pulled in. Why take the risk, risk vs reward in this case taking the risk has zero reward. its all risk and no reward. get some work boots !

I think the logic is that it’s easier on the engine as there is a buffer (belt) between the engine and chipping wheel. Not sure how much of this is true, as I’ve had a chipper with a clutch shear a flywheel key. The older consumer chippers all had belts, now it seems to be all direct drive. Less parts = less price is my best guess. Nice video and machine none the less.
