Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

This series was greatly assisted due to the book Tal wrote about the match. There isn't such a resource for the next match.
@TataMataAkrobata
@TataMataAkrobata 6 жыл бұрын
such resources are scarce in general, whichever series comes next it most probably will not be assisted by a book of that quality. botvinnik and tal only played two matches, so ti seems like a case of following up A with saying B, it's not like suggesting a full series on every karpov kasparov match.

Well, you are in more than 140K subs, a year and a half later. Sir, I must say, congratulations. Excellent work, enormous effort. Thank you, beautiful journey through the history of chess.

Watched the whole series in a week after discovering it... it's kinda anticlimax to see that this was the way this great series ended, but I believe Botvinnik had his own mindset and Tal definitely deserved it and earned much respect. I always imagined Tal as a naughty boy that enjoys adventurous tricks, but he was actually courageous as much as he was talented. It has been an amazing series to watch, thank you so much agad!

From Tal`s "Magia en el tablero (Vol. 1)": ... from the sporting point of view the result that i got was overwhelming, but it did not reflect the real relationship of each players strenght. In such a tense encounter i was able to directly verify the Botvinnik`s extraordinary erudition in the openings (game 8, 17 and 20), how deep his strategic ideas was (games 5, 10, 12), his exelence in finals (game 9). The truth is that game 9 is undoubtedly one of the most interesting of the match, and it was impeccably played by M. Botvinnik." Keep up the good work! Regards, A.
