I saw photographs taken after the fire that showed the outside of the white wooden board fence charged and the paint blistered and peeling, but the inside of the fence showed no signs of having been through the intense heat of the fire. Reports in newspapers of the time said that the people who took shelter on the site testified that it was cool in the chapel, or a comfortable temperature, and only a little warm on the grounds outside the chapel. All around the chapel grounds, photographs showed the devastation of the charred and scorched earth, with the little wooden chapel standing inside the intact wooden fenced grounds. The photographs are unforgettable. Thank you for showing what the site looks like today. Our Lady of Good Help, pray for us!

Our Lady of Good Help shrine in Champion, Wisconsin survived the devastating Peshtigo wildfires of 1871. It was said to be divine intervention by Jesus when all of the surrounding land of the shrine was destroyed by the fires.
