GSB style of making CHANYA GHASHI actually includes oil (very little) fried coriander seeds (dhane), few fenugreek seeds (methi) and red chilly. Add grated half coconut, little tamarind, and all the three above-mentioned ingredients together with warm water to a mixer and make a fine paste. Add the paste to boiled chana and yam (suran) for further processing with suitable amount of water. Lastly tempering (fodni) is done using coconut oil, rai, hing, curry leaves and red chillies. Usually GSB style includes mustard seeds (rai) in ambyache sasam. Almost all GSB style curries include coriander seeds (dhane).

the Mangalore way is by roasting in little coconut oilhalf fist of coriander seeds and add jeera (half quantity of coriander). Add this to the coconut and chilly mixture and make a paste

Sorry but the mustard seed ground masala is called 'sasam' mustard seeds are called saasam in konkani. We make sasam of kohla(ash gourd), and even fruits like ripe mangoes, grapes etc. Ghashi masala has coriander seeds, udid daal, methi seeds... There are variations of this but coriander seeds is the predominant spice in ghassi

All Mangloreans cook chickpeas and elephant yam like this, not only GSBs. We also add garlic to the tadka for variation.

Ma most Mangalore Catholics and konkanis are exGSB or GSB.... So the similarity..... Including adding a pinch of sugar for most vegetable upcurry

@ I’m neither. I’m a blue blooded Tuluva… yet, we cook chana/ kadale gashi like this. That is what I meant…

I saw Malayalees from Kerala use coconut for making the chickpeas in many of the You tube videos , and my first reaction was that they committed a cooking fraud with the Absolute Northern ( Afghanistan, or Pakistani part of Punjab) Raised chick pea or which we called " kabuli chana" ... Nevertheless hear you are ....
@RavindraKamath5515 сағат бұрын
It is not GSB Chana Ghasi ... original recipe does not have hing and along with mustard seeds. Jeera is added ..This gives it specific flavour ..
