Oh my goodness, even without all the listed ingredients (I substituted a couple) this is the most delicious dhal I have ever tasted! I would serve this to anyone and be proud. Bumbi, You're my heroine! Your instructions are so easy to follow, and your voice so lovely to listen to. I am English in England but I dearly love spicy foods. I am going to make this dhal for my neighbours who are of Pakistani origin and I'm sure they'll be blown away! ❤ what a wonderful alternative to those of us who grew up with humdrum pea soup! I made this today and even my hubby liked it ☺️ I had to use sweet potato leaves and some moringa in place of the spinach 👍 That oil you made at the end? Dhall is so nutritious and sustaining. Im Irish and I eat dhall at least 1x wk. I've been making a thick mung dhall with spinach and coconut. I look forward to trying your dhall and spinach recipe. It looks so delicious. Mine won't be very hot and I'll add all the spinach nearer the end. The nice thing about recipes is, you can adjust them to your own taste or dietary requirements. eg chicken pot pie. Chicken replaced with beans,cheese,mushrooms..... Thank you for your lovely recipe and demonstration. Indian food is amazing. ❤

I just made this with yellow lentils, with a couple slight adjustments, and this is very good indeed! The lemon juice at the end, I feel, is an important part. It lifts the whole thing and makes it sing. Greetings from Finland.

Namaskar, Bumbi! I grew up eating Italian bean dishes like escarole and cannellini bean soup, so it was easy to fall in love with the universe of dals from the Indian subcontinent! I found your channel recently and realized my dal game could use improvement. Even though i forgot to pick up fresh ginger and cilantro (I used 1/2 tsp dried ginger with the dal) 🥴 it turned out great for a cold winter day in the upper Midwest! Fresh tomatoes here are only good for about a month and a half in the summer, so I used about a half cup of drained "petite diced" canned tomatoes, and got the effect you described in your video- the tomato cubes softened without turning into mush. And since I was feeling lazy, I used frozen chopped organic spinach and it worked out great! Oh, and my tadka turned out PERFECTLY thanks to your tips! The generous amount of garlic puts this recipe over the top 😋, and I will definitely be making it again. I just saw your video for dal makhani with black beans, and I am excited as a kid at Christmas to try it next! Thank you for your great advice presented in a way that is both calming and humorous! 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Bumbi is there an alternative to paprika.And is the paprika sweet as I think Paprika is the same as red chilly pdr.

Sweet paprika is obtained from red bell pepper and it has no heat. If you want no heat but still the color in your curries then use sweet paprika or else you can use Kashmiri chilli powder or any regular chilli powder
