Chancellor Jeremy Hunt says that it's "encouraging" that the UK economy has grown faster than France, Germany, Italy or the USA over the last quarter.
More jobs have been created in the UK since 2010 than in any other European country Mr Hunt said, and that families having a "tough time" would see that the government's decisions are beginning to pay off.

GDP is merely a measure of how much money runs through the economy. Ireland's GDP per capita has gone up for the last ten years, but objectively, the average person is now worse off than they were in the 2008 crash.

Rising GDP, we are told, is a sign of prosperity. Raise the GDP and all benefit. But if our economies sell a load of tat that is designed to break and be rebought then the GDP rises and only the bourgeois benefit!

Gdp per capita is the important component. Plus an equitable society, not one that just even fits the super wealthy or just wealthy. Hunt is a liar

Unfortunately, real terms calculations tell exactly the opposite. All the pain brought on the rise in energy costs caused by foreign policy i.e. forcing us to buy exepmsive energy by refusing to buy cheap energy.

Absolutely. Most since May 2010 have either had no wave rise or had just a 1% wage rise at best, while even when inflation was less than 2%, things like bus and rail fares havê shot up by significantly more than the rate of inflation, gás and electric bills going through the roof, and the recent soaring inflation has exacerbated things a lot further with everything going up by a lot more still at or a lot more than the headline rate of inflation. And even now as the headline rate of inflation is officially lower than 2%, the vast majority of people are still finding it extremely difficult or even impossible to make ends meet. Inflation is still a lot higher than the 2% headline inflation rate for many products. It's austerity on steroid for many miliions of UK households. It's far from the feelgood factor that the tories are trying to portray.

Fake data, look at the Foreign Exchange markets, if remotely turn the GBP wouldn't be only up 5 pips against the dollar. It would be up a good 50 pips, maybe heading for 100 pips by the end of the day.

We look at current government unfunded state pension and public pension liabilities and call it a ponzi scheme as it is unfunded and like to fall apart or more likely the amount promised may not be delivered. The UK government currently has almost £5 trillion worth of pension liabilities which it will have to pay in the future (£1.2 trillion for public service pensions and £3.84 trillion in respect of the state pension). Most of these are unfunded, meaning that they are largely paid out of annual tax revenues and the bill for them is being passed on to future generations because today’s government is not putting money aside to cover them.

What a gigantic mistake it has been by Sunak by bringing this hideous individual back ..... Along with Gove and Cameron, he's a complete Nightmare. There were absolutely no Tears shed when he departed first time round, same as the other two mentioned, and it's amusing to hear him mention "Unpopular Decisions" .... Well, there's hardly anyone more unpopular than him ....

A chancellor who is only talking to the rich. It hasn't been challengng time at all for the rich, just that they had a bit less disposable income to splash out than usual during the challenging time for the rest of the population during this never ending cost of living crisis (which it still is) until successive tory pre-election tax cut bribes in the Autumn Statement then the Spring Budget for the rich to go on a spending spree, while the rest of us are still tightening our belts in the latest round of austerity for all the less well off. Sunak and Hunt can crow about the UK officially coming out of recession after 1 quarter, just that the rest of us don't feel any growth and haven't cone for many years.
