Chandigarh 3 (of 4): The garden design of Nek Chand's Illegal Rock Garden

Nek Chand Saini’s (नेक चंद सैनी) designed a Rock Garden in Chandigarh. It is a great popular success and cultural critics find it much more interesting than the work of most landscape architects and garden designers. They see it as being in refreshingly postmodern opposition to the stark abstract modernism of Corbusier’s Chandigarh

Thank you very much for this series of Chandigarh videos. I visited the Capitol Complex and the Rock Garden on consecutive days, and the contrast between the two was very striking and provocative. I love them both for different reasons (Le Corbusier is the reason I came to Chandigarh), but it seems pretty clear that the Rock Garden and Nek Chand are much more popular with the Indian public than Le Corbusier and his work.
