When he auditioned for the part, he was initially helping his friends with the character portrayal as he resembled Chandler a lot according to them. So as he gave the audition he was immediately selected. It's just a coincidence how Matthew and Chandler seem like the same person.

Matthew Perry was the only one allowed in the writers room because he came up with most of the jokes for the show. When the cast were told how to act, they basically just told MP to be himself, so many of his actions/jokes are ad libbed and he wrote them himself. So Chandler Bing is basically just Matthew Perry 😂🖤 Edit: Also the guy who plays Joshuas dad is Matthew Perry’s real life dad.
