I find LJ Shen is really good for angst, particularly in "The Villain" and "Bane". Also Sophie Lark's "Savage Lover". If you haven't already, check out Sara Cate's last two books in the Salacious Club series, "Eyes on me" and "Give me more". While each book explores different kinks (the heros are owners of a sex club), the stories are heartfelt and quite angsty, with a lot more depth to them than the usual raunchy sex club novels.

It Happened One Summer is my favorite rom-com romance book! I liked The Love Hypothesis but I didn't love it, for some reason it didn't wow me. I had to skip a few other books you talked about because I haven't read them yet, but when I do I'll come back and watch the rest. Seven Days in June is in my TBR for this month and I have to read All Rhodes Lead Here.

I loveeee to hear you talk about books you love. I honestly could listen to you talk about 64 books you love 🙈🙈. I've read most of the books in this video and love them too. Out of all these I love Seven Days in June and Regretting you (one of CoHo's most underrated books imo) the most. You've also sold me on trying Spoiler Alert. I haven't heard much about it before, so I'll pick it up. One book on this list that did disappoint me is the Bride Test, because I loved it up to like 80/85% mark, & then it just wrapped up too many loose ends in one scene that made it so rushed and not realistic. Also Quan (like everyone else was my fave) & I felt he was written into the story to fit Esme's agenda instead of progressing his own, which I really felt frustrated about. Anywayyy rant out 🙊
@cassiek672 жыл бұрын
I’ve read all of these except Regretting You, and I’ve given all of them 4 or 5 stars. This is making me think I should read that too, even though I kinda wanted to never read a Colleen Hoover book ever again. This video was great for your viewers to kind of check in and see how their reading preferences align with your current preferences!

@juliavittoriaofficial2 жыл бұрын
I don’t hate The Love Hypothesis, but the book REALLY did make me uncomfortable for some reason. Most of their interactions were completely forced by her friend, not even part of their own plans at all, and that didn’t sit right with me. And also the “smut” scene… her hesitation made me feel uncomfortable, because it made me feel like she wasn’t a 100% sure, and that makes consent a little blurry, so I really didn’t like that. I did enjoy the tropes, the plot twist and the way he stood up for her, but I really can’t look past the things that ultimately made me not like the book!

Ok so NOT a romance, but a YA fantasy series that will forever live in my heart because of the mutual pining is Air Awakens by Elise Kova. There’s a bit of an age gap (6 years; 18 & 24) and the male mc is the crown prince, so very obviously should be off-limits…. right? 😜 but Vhalla and Aldrik orbit around each other for so long and they both grow so much as people: he encourages her to accept and hone her newfound powers; she encourages him to believe in his decisions and instincts as a leader (and the next King). I just UGH I love them so much. And the whole series is on Kindle Unlimited!

Your reasons for liking Spoiler Alert made me think of Alex, Approximately. It's YA but it's the same thing where they've been friends online forever on a classic movie forum and then meet in Cali and initially hate each other but of course fall in love. It wasn't a 5 star for me but I remember the tension being good and it being pretty sex positive despite no explicit sex scenes because YA.

It's not the tropes I didn't like in The Love Hypothesis personally, it's that the characters were supposed to be fully grown adults but felt incredibly juvenile to me. I felt the same with The Spanish Love Deception, if you put the female characters from both books in a highschool setting I'd probably like them a lot more but trying to convince me they're grown adults with high powered jobs like scientists (and whatever they were in TSLD) but also have the mentality of teenagers just lost me and I couldn't relate to them at all. Tbf I used to love fanfiction but I haven't read it in years so maybe it's just a style of writing I've grown out of idk. My fav fanfictions were the more grown up, well written type to begin with too.
@natb9919 Жыл бұрын
Have to admit I was 1/3 of the way through TLH when I wrote this and I actually really enjoyed the rest of it. It started to feel a lot more like I was reading about actual adults and now I know it's a kind of homage to fanfic I can excuse a lot of what I was perceiving as "juvenile" as legit fanfic tropes that were actually weaved in quite well.

The thing that makes or break friends to lovers for me is whether they both wanted something from the beginning. I liked PWMOV but I HATED When Harry meets Sally. There’s so much emphasis on the fact that they will end up together because they’re a man and a woman and we all know that friendship is a lie. That’s such a sad belief.

I’ve never understood the friends to lovers trope. I think I would have to read a story of two young kids (pre puberty when you start to really explore sexuality/relationships) who are separated and then reunited when they’re older. But even that isn’t a gradual thing. I don’t like insta love per se but I do think there’s a distinction in how I approach relationships from a friendship versus lover perspective. I don’t know if I’m making sense 😂 I just can’t imagine falling for any of my guy friends. I love them for who they are as my friends but it would never be more lol
