My 2.55 with gold hardware has black leather interior pocket, and despite the fact I bought mine from the Manchester boutique in selfridges, I started to worry something was wrong with it. i like the "older" bag....a blue black IMO denotes more "class" as an everyday lifestyle...aside from that the pewter chain and hardware is more "utilitarian" w/class..rather than the gold hardware which denotes slick "modernity"...thanks for the review..Im not a big bag person but your attention to detail is always appreciated.............B.

I’m so impressed and so grateful for videos like this that really pay attn to the details for lux goods. Like you I believe that if you are paying more for them the craftsmanship should be exquisite and the quality of the leathers used should be extremely high. I am a Chanel addict and although I feel their prices are starting to get astronomical I really feel the quality of their craftsmanship and leathers have produced pieces that stand the test of time. I love classy things too but if I’m paying premium pricing I expect premium craftsmanship - although I do hear that the quality has come down over the years. Would love to see more videos like this in the future and I was so intrigued I didn’t the video long at all! Finally a very in depth and expert review on handbags that pay attn to the little details ! Keep it up !!

My classic flap is made in France - didn’t realize made in Italy made such a difference. After your video I went to check my black with gold hardware reissue that was made in Italy. I bought it this year. I am happy to report that whoever made it was trained by the pros. Checked the stitching on the threads holding the flap and they are just as you said they should be. All Grommets are aligned and perfectly spaced. Every stitch on sides, bottom, flaps and pocket on back match and everything is perfectly centered. Relieved - for the cost of this bag it should be perfect no matter where it was made. Really enjoyed this video.

i believe there’s nothing wrong with glazing the edges. it really depends on the design of the bags. for some styles, it makes sense to glaze bcus the thickness/many layers of leather would break a needle.

Hi Dacob, this video is perfect and will be an incredible resource to countless people for years to come. I really love the envelope folding of the reissue, and was wondering how you store it and still maintain its original shape. Do you still keep it upright, or lay it flat on a shelf? I'm worried about quilts indenting inwards, or the bottom losing its crispness and looking unintentionally saggy instead.

Good questions. I keep the bag mostly upright but I place it on several layers of tissue paper which act as a very soft and thick pillow so that the bag always has a soft place to stay. I sometimes lay it on its back but never longer than a day or two. When I lay it on its back I also only place it on top of either a pilow or other soft material. The bag is furthermore always stored in its pouch and plastic bags.

The reissue is the only Chanel handbag I desire. I have never seen a video like this before on KZbin and doubt I ever will again unless you make it. I think the glazing is a marvellous way for many businesses i.e. "LV" for example to earn plenty of money from your previously purchased items. The original glazing is so much thinner and barely visible compared to when an item is reglazed. So for me, it's all by design. Thank you for such an informative video.

I'm currently in Paris searching for this bag, went to four different stores and none of the bags had the reinforced horizontal and vertical stitching on the inside. :( I'm so sad that Chanel is really cutting corners on this now. All of the new stock this season is coming from Italy as well. I'm now trying to decide if I should go with one of these or keep looking elsewhere.

So sorry to hear that. Yes, it is getting harder to find the vertical/horizontal stitches within the classic carryover bags. The seasonal bags just don't have those details at all anymore. It saves them a lot of time in production if they skip that step. Sad but true.

Super Dacob I searched through 10 boutiques and looked at at least 15 bags to finally find one that was made in France and had the right feeling and construction. Sadly I had to give up on that stitch cause it seems like they just don't produce them like that anymore. 😞

Oh I made a video already where I talk about the base fold but there is indeed much much more to say about the 2.55. I might make more videos if this one hets enough love and views. Its just that at 40 minutes length I thought it was already too long for youtube standards.lol... so I spoke quickly to say as much as possible. Maybe I could make super short videos of about a minute each where I show just one aspect of the bag so in the title of the video I could put the exact topic of conversation. Might make it easier for people to find later on when they use the youtube search engine... but it would be a heck of a lot of videos... just like my how to pronounce foreign designers series... thoughts?

Hi dear. The 2.55 reissues are usually made of distressed aged calfskin so the bottom of the bags are then also made of aged calfskin. Not sure if you meant something else maybe?

I meant that the bottom of your bags (and other bags I’ve seen) look a lot tighter than the rest of the bag body.. but there was one I saw from Rebag which wasn’t so tightly pulled (like you can see light puffs of the distressed calf skin as in the rest of the bag). I asked their authentication team and they said that some years (this one from 2010-2011) had slightly different bottoms where the leather wasn’t pulled as tight.

I watched another one of your videos about storing Chanel bags, specifically the reissue. After you’ve protected and done all the layers are you storing the bags upright or laying down? I want to prevent sagging. Thank you, love the video!!!

I actually store both ways. A few of the bags are stored upright with a lot and I mean A LOT of tissue paper that functions as cushion while a few other bags are stored flat but also with a lot of cushioning under them. when I lay them flat then I use foamy material to cushion them. The bags are in both cases still in their dust bags and protective plastic bags and then either placed upright or flat. xoxo

Hi Super Dacob- This is so helpful! I am glad I came across this video before buying a Reissue (which I am considering doing)! If you don't mind, I have quick question for you. I have read some articles saying that the width of each interlocking stitched CC on the underside of the inner flap should be exactly the same as the spaced in between where the two CC's intersect. Yet it looks like in your Reissue 226, the space in between looks larger than the width of each C. Is this a variation from bag to bag? Thanks!

I wish you had made this video before I bought my Chanel reissue. Mine is made in Italy and it doesn’t have to horizontal stitching. And it smells like a stinky leather. I need to air it out, lol

Amazing and detailed review, I have 2005, 225 size and I don’t know if then bags were made slightly different, but when you were pointing out how your bags a perfectly alined on the inside ( black leather with burgundy leather) on my one on both sides are misaligned for 5 milammiter towards inside of the bag. Looks like leather craftsmen misaligned them on purpose, so when you run your fingers over it you can’t really feel the starching bump. I don’t know if it’s just my bag or that was the design, maybe others can let us know. Again, AMAZING review ❤️💕❤️

My CHANEL Reissue from 2005 in both the 225 and 227 sizes also have the burgundy interior lining stitches about 5mm toward the front panel of the bag. Thanks for pointing out this detail! The 2.55's from 2012 in jersey also have this type of "misaligned" stitching, even more than 5mm. The stitches are perfectly symmetrical on both sides, so perhaps Dacob would still appreciate this design on older bags.

Regarding the chains. I visited a chain factory in Germany and was told that Chanel and many other luxury brands are not so bothered with using the top quality chains as they have huge demand for the bags. Apparently they have their chains produced in Asia/China. I don’t know if this is the case but this is what I have been told 🤷🏻‍♀️

How is the leather lining of the pocket ? I am interested to get a preloved 225 but the seller says the lining of the outside pocket is black ? Is it supposed to be burgundy like the inside of the bag ?

There are both versions out there and one does not mean the other is not authentic. I have had both bags in my hands at CHANEL boutiques: some had the burgundy lining back pocket and others the black.

Excuse me but the varnish applied to the edges of a leather piece are in fact a point of pride a sign of quality for the metier since nothing is hidden about the process of the manufacture and everything has to be perfect. If you will, it's the equivalent of just wearing lip balm/gloss/stick because you woke up like this and don't need a full on mask of make up or face tune to face the world (entire empires have been built on the later and I'm not dissing on such a big part of the population but there's something about a clean face) Folding an edge also has the disadvantage of further stressing the leather which already had to be shaved, glued and pounded before been turned over and if damaged really can't be returned to its original intended glory unlike a varnished edge (the term used in "Louis Vuitton City bags A Natural History"). There's really no reason beyond aesthetics for a folded edge in a leather piece if your workforce is properly trained and you have good materials (see Hermès, Vuitton, the Fendi Selleria line and Loewe's wonderful marquetry pieces)

What do you think of he so black hardwares? I’ve seen and read that the gold hardwares lose their colors or he color rubs off on the chain. I’ve heard that so black can chip in certain reissue years. What are your thoughts on this?

I am not a fan of the so black hardware. While it might make the bag look more rock or fresh, it also makes it lose its charm in a way. Yes, the highly polished and at times glossy or lacquered finish of the so black hardware can chip and scratch easily. You need to be careful but then again, if the bag is made with so black hardware in order to look more rock then the chipping fits into the rock esthetic. As for the gold hardware on the reissue. Yes, it can fade. This has to do with the way the hardware is coated and treated. I do not mind the fading. Makes the bag look even more vintage. I do not expect the metal hardware to remain pristine throughout the years... I mean... after all it is not a noble metal. The chains are not made in gold or silver. They are coated and they will react to our essential skin oils, to temperature, to humidity and what have you so we need to be prepared to accept the change the metal chains will go through while we use the bags throughout the years. By this I do not mean that the chains should degrade just a few weeks after purchase. They can start changing several months after purchase depending on how often you use them and which conditions you put them through on a daily basis.

Super Dacob good point about so black chipping and the looking for more edgy. The only problem is that many people who buy them don’t realize or expect chipping. Also, good point about being okay with the wearing of the color with use. What do you think of the various leathers and their quality and durability in the reissues? Could this be another video topic? There’s a lot on purseforum as to how some leathers of reissues are not durable or fixable if worn. Great video!

CHANEL sunglasses are made by LUXOTTICA, which, if you do some research you will find out, also produces almost all other designer brand sunglasses as well... from Dolce & Gabbana to Prada to Versace, Giorgio Armani all the way to Oakley, Ray Ban and so on... xoxo
