try to put some really greasy cream or vaseline ideally on the spot that causes you pain before you wear them. It may stain the inside but it will protect your foot from friction.

I have the flats and I've been dying for the espadrilles, but in most reviews across the board the cons outdo the pros. Uff, still tempted though.
