Chanel Sycomore EDP Review | Chanel Sycomore EDP vs EDT
This is my Chanel Sycomore EDP Review a comparison of Chanel Sycomore EDP vs EDT. EDP: Eau De Parfum and EDT: Eau De Toilette. Why oh why did Chanel do this to their collection of Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrances? Who's idiotic idea was to reformulate these Chanel Les Exclusifs De Chanel collection of fragrances? In all honesty, the new Sycomore EDP (Eau De Parfum) is okay but there's something missing. Also the dry down is not as great as I remember it being with the EDT. Sycomore as I said it's close smell wise but there's too much of a mash-up of notes quality to the new Sycomore EDP compared to the EDT. In other words, I can pick out the notes in the Chanel Sycomore EDT here in the EDP after wearing it several times it's hard to pick out notes especially in the dry down. It's almost like Chanel Sycomore has lots it's luxyrness and has just become a basic generic designer vetiver fragrance. Don't get me wrong though if you're not studying the fragrance it's all fine but, with my continued wearing and studying, it's lost it's luster, it's luxury and not really worth the HUGE price tag they are asking for it. So you be the judge get yourself some samples or decants and see what I am talking about and come back to this video and let me know.

I'm sorry Sebastian, but beg to differ, I have a sample of Sycamore EDP and Encre noir extreme, compared both, one on each wrist. Extreme is a bit more boozy to my nose and is gone in less than 10 minutes on my skin, but Sycamore EDP is very woody/ Vetiver and still lasting, it's far superior to encre noir extreme.

I completely agree with your analysis. I was obsessed with the EDT and it was my signature scent for years. Since I ran out of it recently I feel like part of my identity was lost. I'm trying desperately to replace it. I bought the EDP and returned it. It's nauseating.

Well I guess ignorance is bliss because I never smelled the EDT and the EDP is the best vetiver I’ve smelled, and my all-time favourite fragrance of the past past 30 years. (But not the past 40).

Do you think the boutique fragrance houses like Jovoy will become more dominate? The older houses seem to make changes to justify their existence and in the process diminish old standards most notably at Chanel.

Sebastian, appreciate you doing this video! Sycomore is my favorite vetiver and even woody fragrance and so I wear it very sparingly from my opaque decant. Sadly wasn't able to get a bottle before the EDP change. And now from your review will be sticking to the EDT and buying up any decants and minis I can find. It's so helpful to have reviewers like you who give us the truth behind all these, at least for Chanel, ridiculous and unnecessary changes. Which seem entirely monetarily driven because it's actually making the fragrances less popular. It's good to know the difference before even wasting time driving to the mall to smell them. Keep up these great types of reviews as they are very helpful to us on a budget.

A do like the new version of Coromandel - it's a bit more gourmandish - the white chocolate is more pronounced.When your old bottle's gone try to buy the new one from UK -price is cheaper over there.

Excellent comparison, Seb. I purchased a bottle of Gardenia EDP for my girlfriend this Christmas and we returned it. Don't get me wrong...it was very nice, but it just didn't match her almost gone bottle of the EDT...and she has several much less expensive gardenia fragrances she prefer over the EDP. I have five bottles of the old EDTS (Bois Illes, Cormandel, etc.) that I'm going to cherish because I like 'em all better than their EDP replacements, so far. Cheers!

I was able to get the EDT just before Chanel switched over to the EDP on the recommendation of another reviewer after I told him I like Vetiver fragrances. He said it's more of a "wet Vetiver" which intrigued me enough to get it. Gotta put it on right now!

I wore the EDT for years and tried the EDP today. Totally unrecognisable. The smokiness is gone. It somewhat resembles Chanel no19 now to me in the drydown

I recently bought samples of both Sycamore edt and edp to do a side by side comparison. I actually prefer the edp, in both scent and performance. I got the samples from different sellers, so I suppose it’s possible the edt had been watered down or a fake...but the edp was not as sharp, not so thin, and it projected and lasted much longer. I don’t think I like Sycamore enough to buy a FB. I got Coromandel edp right before they had the last price increase...I LOVE it, but cannot compare to the edt bc I never had a chance to try it unfortunately. I really think Chanel should offer both and let the customer decide which they want...pretty ridiculous not to.

Yikes, this is dismaying, but I'm all the more glad you decided to review and compare one of ht EDTs to EDPs. I've not had much experience with the line as of late so I'm unfamiliar with the EDPs but as always, one should buy with caution!

How can you tell the difference if you are buying bottle online from a seller. I understand that only the bottom of box denotes edp or edt. But the bottom of perfume bottle doesnt.

One of the newer KZbin reviewers called the nose knows sent me a sample of this, the edt. I loved it so much. Then found out it’s been discontinued. Sebastian, just contact him if you can. A couple of months ago, he said he could get me the edt even though it had been reformulated. He works at Neiman Marcus. Maybe he can hook you up the edt

Thank you for the EDP review. I still have 75ml Sycamore EDT & once it’s gone it’s gone. I really disliked Gardenia, Sycomore & Coromandal EDPs. Have & love them in EDTs. They are just different scents now. I guess it’s ok as long as one never wore those in EDTs.

Bummer :( I've tried the EDP but I didn't find it to be that interesting. It's was above average but not enough to stand out. I've never tried the EDT before. I've managed to score a nearly full bottle of Coromandel EDT. I tried the EDP a few times, it was nice but lack the special factor of the EDT. Not worth the asking price.

Funnily, I just tested this first time yesterday along the other Exclusifs. To me, Sycomore smells very close to the OG Encre Noire which I own so not really impressed by it along with the others I tried including Coromandel especially for the prices they are going for. Not sure if it's my nose or the juice but EN smells a bit sweeter now compared to 1.5 years ago. Thanks, Seb.

Since Jacques Polge left as the in house perfumer from 1978 to 2015 I have been underwhelmed by Chanel, Bleu de Chanel EDP was his last I believe and they have not produced anything mainline men's since whereas Dior pumps out 2 -3 mens fragrances annually. I've personally loved Jacques Polge's work for Chanel. I'm just not convinced that Oliver his son is up to Chanel standard

Chanel has SCREWED it's perfume lover customers who are loyal to the brand. It suggests a Great disregard for the intelligence of the buying public. I Loved "Coromandel" EDT and can't bring myself to wear this new garbage that they've released. And for a much higher price tag??? I trying not to use profanity here! Out of respect for your channel. Let me say in closing, that I'm disappointed in the Chanel brand to the point of not wanting to patronize their brand any longer. The beautiful thing about perfumery is there are many wonderful selections to choose from. I'd be more at peace supporting a company that demonstrate respect for it's customer base by consistency in quality or at minimum, when dealing with reformulating known FAVORITES... an effort to uphold the standard previously set instead of blatant crass and vulgar commercialism as has been displayed by the extreme price increase and subpar perfumery (by comparison) that has been shown in the Led Exclusives collection! I'm hoping all lovers of quality perfume won't shop where their hard earned money and their general intelligence are not respected. As Chanel has made so blatantly obvious here... 😫😞😠🤒🤕🤔
