As a big busted person I always prefer a vee neckline. Two things I find work are: to staystitch the vee to stop distortion, and baste above the vee to the back. Then draw the thread up 1.5 cm or so on each side, press out the wrinkles and then add the neck band. It stops gapping from occurring.

Hi Catherine, I am following you for some time now and you have been my game-changer-inspiration (don't know how to say it otherwise). Thanks to you - your cheerful personality and your inspiring tutorials- I finally stopped shopping fast fashion. You encouraged me to turn my hobby and my passion for shopping clothes and trends into some sustainable, creative direction. My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was a kid and I do know some little basics but I never dared to be experimental with it. Well I have lot's of ideas but still need to learn so much. Currently, square shaped necks on elastic shirts and tops are so on trend, but I can not find a tutorial how to do that properly on jerseys/elastics. I'd be very grateful if you could make a video about it. But anyway, I love your videos and look forward to the next one. You have already been a great inspiration for a change in my wardrobe. Thank you so much!

I just used your tutorial. It worked. Thank you so much. Tight T-shirt necks bug the heck out of me. I can't wait to try again, but I had a hard time seeing the manipulation of the V part ends. So after stitching the center of the new band together in the V shape, I trimmed that seam to 1/4 inch and opened the seam flat. Then I finished attaching the neck band. I am not sure how it will hold up to washing (the narrow seam allowance). I couldn't see what you were doing with the flaps because it was black. Could you do an addendum focusing on just the V in a light colored t-shirt using a different color thread? That would be so helpful. You could use the new sample on a project board for your classes.

Congrats on finding a thrifted treasure. Each situation is unique, so it's next to impossible for me to advise you on your dress. The straps should be pretty straightforward, but reducing the tightness of elastic can be tricky, depending on the method that was used to put it in. You mentioned using a round point needle on knits in a previous video. I have learned the hard way that tension settings need to be adjusted. But, the directions I was able to find on sewing knits said to use a mesh specialty thread (that feels like a huge spend when one is tryiing to make do). Do you use any particular type thread? I was taught in snatches by my Mom, so never had full cohesive training. Is there a course you would recommend?
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
A ballpoint needle is always recommended on knits, but truth be told, I usually just use my universal needle! If it skips stitches, then I'll change to a ballpoint. And my go-to thread is just a polyester thread. I'm like you--I don't want to spend a lot of things like needles and thread! I'd rather spend the money on fabric!

I am seeing quite a few videos about crew neck to v-neck, but not if the change is to a square boat cut, or even a curve that just sort of follows the curve of a collarbone. Is that because it only works if its a crew neck to a v-neck? It seems like your method should be able to work regardless of the design but now I'm nervous to try.
