My dad was bipolar. He was such a great guy. He passed away 39 years ago today. Glenn, you are such a beauty.

I'm continuously amazed by Glenn Closes's 'Genius-level' Emotional IQ and her deep humanity. No wonder she's such a gifted actress. Thanks for shining a light.

Thank you for this video. My 3 adult children all have a mental illness and are under treatment, sometimes I feel I did something wrong, but it's hereditary and was passed on unfortunately. I truly love my children and try my best to support them no matter what, but it is extremely difficult to cope with at times. I to have bipolar 2, so when we are all in a depressive mood it can be quite unbearable.

I saw the commercial on the t.v. I want to thank you. I figured out I had ocd when I was young and still to this day am terrified of the idea of telling people I know and my friends. Thank you for telling your stories it means a lot to me,

Jessie and Glenn look so much alike. Glenn Close, if you are reading this, your performance in Paradise Road was very powerful. Thank you for doing so much good with what you have been given. P.S. I liked 101 Dalmatians a lot too.

This is my story. I was diagnosed at 38. As much life as I lost, because of what I know now, the life that I have gained is amazing.

Thank you. I was diagnosed Bipolar II in the early 1990s and I'm still struggling to accept that I actually have a mental illness. This commercial helped me a lot, as do other celebrities who come out. My favorite is Carrie Fisher, who unlike the others, actually used the term "mentally ill", not just "bipolar" as the others did. Thanks again :-)

My daughter is 13. I have been through H... & High water with her...Nobody in my family will acknowledge that she has a mental illness - even though therapist etc... have told them this for a fact - they think it stems from bad parenting on my self and my ex - who -have a good relationship - only because we care about our daughter more than our selves. It is rough road - especially when you feel you are all alone - with the exception of a few friends that understand...thank you for speaking out!!! It still hurts - when there is no easy answer - God bless you Glenn , your sis & family for making people be aware - maybe more understanding of mental disease....Always & Forever - Beth

I saw the tv comm'l a few days ago. Thank you so much for taking a stand Glenn. Just this week the court order became permanent to restrain my beautiful (ill) daughter from my elder parents. It's not been a pretty scene. She's 31 and has no 'insight' that her brain is diseased. Her whereabouts have been unknown to me for awhile. I took the Family-to-Family course earlier this year. Many thanks to NAMI and to you. vbh btw, This is my very 1st post on youtube.

It's a very good ideea to change the stigma and to make also medical education. Why?Why so much mental desease and so much suffering? Which is the cause?

@kotoole7 There is no cure, only treatment. You dont take meds first and then get signs of depression or mania. There has to be some sort of symptom first diagnosed, which depending on the signs can be quite readily diagnosed, or take a long time even after seeking help. It took 10 years for my family doctor to refer me to a psychiatrist, then 2 years of therapy to get a diagnosis. You should not judge something you dont understand.

@kotoole7 thank u for this comment!! people take less and less responsibility for themselves the more these bogus diagnoses are handed out right left and center. It all comes from trauma that has gone un-dealt-with. I know that there are people very far gone and I guess some meds help when there is real psychosis but mostly meds are WAY over prescribed and the other problem is that people start identifying with their dis-ease. I have this or I have that. I agree meds r the worst!!!

For those saying bipolar disorder isn't a real illness, I pray you never get it to find out how very real it is.

Just thing the sister and diagnosed did not even know that she was bi-polar until they saw a psychiatrist.

I dislike the term "illness"- to call something an illness denotes that the person is always ill. When a person is Bipolar, they may experience periods when they feel totally fine; this is their baseline, their normal. "Mental health issues" is a better, more positive term to use; I feel ok saying that I have metal health issues. This means, to me, that I must take extra-good care of my mental health. It feels less stigmatizing.
