In this video, I show how easy it is to remove car wheel nuts by using a torque-multiplier (Nutcracker). So much better than trying to use the pretty much useless factory supplied wheel nut wrench.
And when replacing the wheels, it is important to tighten the wheel nuts to factory specified torque settings otherwise the nuts can come loose & wheels fall off - not a good idea.
I use the Australian made industrial product WARREN & BROWN 323500 torque wrench (rated for 30-300Nm) to tighten the wheel nuts. And I also show 2 other models of torque-wrench for smaller size fasteners. These are the WARREN & BROWN 321500 (rated for 5-120Nm), & a generic micrometer torque-wrench rated for 6-30Nm.

If you intend to buy a torque-multiplier, be aware that the tools come in different design & sizes. The torque-multiplier I have is intended for car wheels. But there are also larger torque-multiplier tools that are designed for large vehicles like buses, large commercial vans & trucks. Read the product information very carefully. Be sure you are selecting, and buying the correct tool to suit your type of vehicle. Otherwise, you will not be able to use the tool if it not designed to suit your type of vehicle.

A torque-wrench is a precision engineered instrument. It must be a tool that is calibrated by the factory, & needs to come supplied with a certificate of calibration. I caution against buying 'cheap' torque-wrench as this tools is very important to correct component tightening; correct & safe operation of the overall mechanical system being worked on. Find out the range of torque-values you will most likely be working on - now & in the future. And select 1, 2 or perhaps 3 torque-wrenches that complement each other to fulfil the required operating torque-range you will need.
Before buying tools, do an internet research on the brands & models of tools that you are interested in. Then evaluate what comments exist on those products, in order to guide your selection choices.

Excellent video! I just ordered one of these multipliers to put in my wife's car. You should always push down on a torque wrench when tightening lug nuts, not pull up. Move the wrench to the other side of the wheel and use your weight to push down.

Excellent video. I want one of those nut crackers. Recently I had a flat tyre on my 4WD. I tried changing the tyre myself and I couldn’t believe how tight the first lug nut was tightened! Gosh, what has the dude in the tyre shop done, probably using his impact wrenched set to the max! So I had to call the AA ( or AAA in the USA). The big fella had the same problem like me. The lug nut just won’t bulge! Yes, it was a lousy short OEM wrench like what you showed early in your video. Luckily the AA dude had a extension rod for use on such short handled nut wrench. With still a lot of force he loosened the damn lug nut. Repeated the convoluted process 4 more times to help change my flat. I hate to think what my other 3 tyres would be tightened to by the tyre shop. Yes, I wanna get that nut cracker, we can’t trust those cowboys at tyre shops, they have impact wrenches to make life easier for them and impossible for us by the road side changing our flats. So thank you for this video! Yes, I like those torque wrenches too, but they cost a fortune !😢

i am glad the video helps. U can get cheaper torque wrenches. My Warren & Brown is expensive as it is industrial grade. It would be big stretch of imagination to think the average auto tyre shop & mechanic would look up the owners manual for a vehicle in order to correctly torque wheel nuts. I reckon all those pneumatic wrenches are set to same one high setting regardless of car models. Loosen all those wheel nuts & torque them up correctly to specs for safety. Check out the amazon.com store link below to see if there are torque wrenches within your price range. Make sure the torque wrench you select operates within the torque range you will need. Torque wrench is an important safety equipment to invest in. There is no other way to do it correctly.

I'm from the U.S. Apple Valley Ca. to be precise, In the Mojave Desert in-between Ca.and Las Vegas NV and have never seen a torque multiplier "aka" a nut buster but now I frickin want one, and oh by the way, I am currently waiting on the AU post to deliver my 1/2" Warren and Brown Deflecting beam torque wrench! As well as already own a 1/4", they are precision at its finest and worth way more coin than crapon IMO plus way more affordable. Great and informative video man need one of these...

I am so pleased the info I shared has made a +ve difference to your toolset :-) WARREN BROWN torque wrench are engineered certified products & not a noname no certification product. Anywhere torque settings are required, it's best to use an engineered certified product. Welcome on board. Any let me know your feedback when you do start using these products.

A question how do you remove the lock nut?
@DIYhabitat
@DIYhabitat Жыл бұрын
there is a special socket that matches the internal pattern of the lock-nut. I have to use this special socket to undo the 1 lock-nut on each wheel.

what do U mean 'lock nut'? if U mean the 1 anti-theft nut on each wheel, there is a matching security socket that fits.

Or use an impact
@DIYhabitat
@DIYhabitat Жыл бұрын
yes impacts are labour saving tools, & great for nut removal. But with impacts it is possible to over-tighten or under tighten when tightening. Only way to tighten to factory setting is with torque wrench. A torque multiplier removes dependency on an electric impact wrench working when I need it for emergency, & or if a cordless tool, that it has a battery charge; or need to pull out lengthy DC-cable to connect to the car battery. The simple mechanical torque multiplier offers reliability when needed for emergency. But no tool is best for everyone, as different users have different requirements. So for some, the electric impact wrench is the best tool.

More reliable than an impact. On the side of the road you're going to have a battery operated impact. The battery might be dead and there you are. The battery will not die in this multiplier.

@@DIYhabitat tire shops around the world that put and take off hundreds of thousands of tires don’t use torque wrenches. If they did, they’d be out of business. An impact is the absolute best choice for tires (and most people have already)
